Broke the bank last night ordering lures.  A few were Megabass jerkbaits.  Watched a video this evening on jerkbaits that was over 1.5 hours long.  Guy stated that a jerkbait rod was tough to make for imparting the correct action to jerkbaits.  His main rod was the Expride B 6'10" Medium.  I see this rod has a Moderate-Fast action.  No way will I spend that kind of money at my age.  Normally I wouldn't spend that much for a lure.

I'm hoping someone has fished jerkbaits with the rod in the title  I'm strictly a shore fisherman these days.  Also less than 6' tall so probably can't use a 7' rod.  How about the Aetos 6'6" MLM?  So far I've only used crankbaits and squarebills on this rod.  It's rated 1/4-1/2 oz.

Fenwick was bought by Pure Fishing.

Almost all the rod companies PF acquired ruined their brand, fanbase, and quality.

Berkleys, Abus, Fenwicks, etc... They still have a high star rating with reviews because of the huge amount of older reviews, but when you filter it with newer reviews its very bad. Majority being snaps easily. (if you already have the rod and its older then you are probably going to enjoy throwing lighter jerkbaits with it, and avoid whats written above).

You didnt mention what size Megabass jerkbaits, if they are Vision 110's the Aetos rod you mentioned may or may not work for it. Try casting it a few times to make sure the rod can properly load the lure.

Ive found most ratings to be just a guideline thats usually not 100%. So a 3/8oz might be too much for a ML. Or might be perfect.

Im 6'2". Anytime ive tried fishing jerkbaits from shore any rod 7' or longer always ends up hitting the ground. I have a 6'6" rod that i tried and it works for me, although its a MH, but i prefer stronger powered rods more than most people.

Maybe this years black friday sales will be good? I would hold out on any rod purchase till then.

That rods probably a decade old and has long since been discontinued. That said....yes, I had it and used it for jerkbaits. It's been a while, but it was a good rod, the whole smallmouth series was a good series...their Achilles was the reel seat, I twisted more than one of them off trying to tighten then down on the old Team Daiwa Sol, and Fuego casting reels I had on then that never seemed to stay tight without use of electrical or duct tape on the reels feet.

MMB:  77 in less than 3 months.  Rods aren't older than me.  Smallmouth series were worth more than list IMO.  Only bought this rod because I had a few of the others in that line and like them a lot.  Used it once cuz I'm not a fan of short rods.

X-Nanahan and Vision 110.  I have the Smallmouth 6'10" MH-MF I could try with the 110s.  Or a 6'6" MHF.  Doubt I'd want to try an ExtraFast action rod.

ww2farmer:  Thanks.  I'll try different reels than the Sol and Fuego.  Don't remember what reels I used previously.  Did you find a brand/model that tightened down sufficiently?  I've got reels from 10 companies including more than one model in most brands.  Let's just say north of 70 reels.  :)

Have a Sniper 6'10" MF, V.I.P. Smallmouth 6'9" MF, and a couple 6'10" ML-EF if that power/action would work.

Otherwise, it's use a 7' rod, or purchase a new rod.  Already have way too many.

I agree with this^^^.

I loved the Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth line of rods. I had multiple spinning rods and 1 casting. I believe the casting was a 6'9" MH-MF if I remember correctly. Loved the rod until I had the same issue WW2 mentioned and the reel seat fell apart putting a reel on.

I am down to one 6'9" ML Fast and a 6'3" M-F in spinning reels. Definitely worth trying to see how you like it!

I bought three Aetos when they started going on deep discounts, maybe ten years ago.  2 spinning and one casting. Loved the action and sensitivity.   Snapped one first time out with it, and got a replacement on the warranty.  Broke two more within a couple years.  Had remaining one, a MHF as my favorite chatterbait rod for just a few more years before it, too, snapped.  Try it.   May find that the tip is a bit soft for confident 'jerks', but might be great, especially with braid.
