NRX+873CRR vs. 893c

Featured Replies

Looking at getting the ultimate, texas rig/bottom contact rod for the upcoming season. I hear varying opinions about the 873CRR as well as the 893C JWR.

15-18lb Fluro or 50lb braid, pegged texas rig with 1/4 oz bullet. Medium cover.

Any feedback or opinions?

Of those 2.. Probably the 873. You may find the 3 power a little on the light side if your using a 1/4 oz plus a heavier plastic. big worm ect.

I'm personally not a huge fan of the 89 inch NRX's but the 893 is one of the best in the series in my opinion. If you can keep the total weight under 1/2 oz.

893 can do that, but the 873 offers the upside of being able to go heavier. I sold my 893 and kept my 873c, but at the time I was living in Tennessee where the cover is heavier than where I live now. Going back I’d swap them as I almost never need to go above 3/8ths here and even that’s pushing it.

Both are great sticks and have superb actions. Try them if you can, at least get them with a reel and line+weight to see how they load. A couple of my friends hate how the 873 loads a 3/8th oz total package.

Just wanted to see if anyone else had any thoughts on these rods. I was thinking about getting one of these. Thinking about using it as a shaky head rod. Also considering an 852c. Have a 802c and just doesn’t feel as sensitive as an 822s, but prefer casting so trying to find it’s equivalent. Thanks

Thanks. Mainly referring to NRX line

I prefer the 873 with a 1/4 oz bullet weight. The rod is actually more powerful than most MH rods, I would say it's a MH+ and will handle your medium cover exceptionally well. It's a great jig rod also. Both great rods!

For a shaky head rod I use the NRX+ 852C rod. It's a great rod for 1/8 - 3/16 oz bullet weights and 6", 7" worms or finesse plastics like menace grubs, small craw like baits.

I have the NRX+ 873C, 853C and the 894C. To me, the 873C excels at Texas Rigged soft plastic and the free rig and is just an all around great rod. The 894C is my favorite jig rod. The 853C is the go between but has slightly less power than the 873C. I like it for 3/8oz jigs, 1/8oz Texas Rigged Senkos and for 1/2oz Dark Sleepers.

If I was only going to have one, it would be the 873C. Also, the tip on this rod is slightly softer than other jig and worm rods.

873c in open water over hard cover... 893c in light cover... Both are very versatile rods...
