Bluegill rod.

Featured Replies

Used a Mudhole SC72UL / 6'0" / Ultra Light blank and built a bluegill rod last year and am using it every time I go fishing recently.  I tried it worm fishing when I built it and caught a couple of 2 lb Alabama Bass with it.  Using a 1000 size reel and 4 lb mono and it's very hard to set the hook on a bass however with a 1/32 oz Beetle Spin it's a killer on stumpknockers and redbreast in FL.  A 4" bream feels strong with this rod and it casts great.  I have about $40 in the rod with SSR guides and a palm swell reel seat.

I love that blank and have 4 rods on it and a 5th I extended to 6'8".  My son started to outcast me so I extended one and put a 1000 size reel on it with 4lb mono.  The others all have 500 and 750 sized reels.  They are amazing little blanks.  I've used other higher end blanks and they just don't cast as well.

Longer rods generally have better hook sets than shorter rods.  Another really nice similar blank is the Rainshadow REVIP70UL, 7 feet.  CCS 8.8/71 at 7 feet, 7.6/69 with 1 foot cut off the butt.

That blank is over twice the cost of the blank I used.
