Favorite tackle box/bag?

Featured Replies

What do y’all use when you go out onto the water? And for us kayak and bank anglers, any favorite bag?

I currently love the Plano Edge boxes and bags. Keeps my hooks from getting rusty. They are a bit pricey but worth it IMO. Had an H2O Xpress backpack that eventually fell apart after years of abuse, been using my Okeechobee Fats sling bag since but am looking to get another backpack. Saw some Evolution fishing ones at BPS last weekend and thought they looked pretty sweet. What do y’all like?

When on the neighborhood ponds, use the Walmart Ozark Trails 3500 Tackle Bag. When at the Reservoir bank fishing, use the Academy H20X 3500 and Okeechobee Fats.  Goal is to go as Minimalist fishing as possible.

I fish out of a kayak and Plano Edge flex box has been the best I've used to date for hard baits. Nothing has broken, you can customize the sizes, the dividers sit flush and it's waterproof.

I use a small plano edge for terminal tackle, mostly with hooks/weights in tiny containers I bought at non-fishing hobbyist stores/BKK small plastic compartments.

For soft plastics I am forever looking for an optimal solution. I've got a new idea for this year, but haven't tested it yet.

I really liked my Plano guide series in the kayak.  I started with the large I think which holds 5 3700s, a 3600, and had two 3400 sized pockets in the side I’d use for soft baits.  I bumped to the extra large which holds 7x 3700 and 3x 3600s.  Good quality bag.  the rubber feet on the bottom were nice for keeping the bottom dry.  I had self draining scupper plugs in the back but a good wave or heavy rain would be enough to get just a bit of water in there.  The feet would hold the back up high enough to let the drains work.

I really like the Simms Tributary Sling.

I wrote about it at length here.

Great bag for the money IMG_0604.webp.99fdb8cbf97639c8de4fddfb04f22f4f.webp

This Okeechobee Fats tackle bag is my favorite for bank fishing. It is a good size and has lots of storage options. I got lucky and got an incredible deal on one. During Academy's clearance, I found one on the shelf marked $15. An employee verified it and I snatched it up!

I’m a minimalist big time. And fish the bank. I use a bass pro sling pack. They are  around 20 dollars. I can carry 2 Plano 3600 boxes or a 3600 and soft plastics in a big ziplock. I enjoy being prepared. But at the same time I’m that guy that if I start the day with a lure I usually stick with it. I don’t see the point and lugging pounds and pounds of tackle. And spend all day tying knots and swapping lures. But my ponds amounts of filamentous algae limit me. But I can usually run a spinner bait, bladed jig, swim jig, around or Texas rigged worms or creatures. Key is lightweight. So I don’t fish many travel hook moving baits except early on in the year. Keep it simple and have fun

I am still using the old Falcon v12 and v6 bags.

This year I am trying out Meiho boxes.  I like the smaller sizes for a lot of things.  They do scratch easily but have otherwise been solid.

I use a milk crate when I'm fishing from my kayak.  When I'm on my Ranger, I put all my Plano boxes in the boat's storage.

I keep all my tackle in an extra large Hawg KastKing tackle bag when I'm not fishing.  It's build quality is decent. The zippers are strong and the bottom material is holding up well after two years.  I've repaired most of the zipper pulls and the plier holders could be sewn on better.  Neither one is still on my bag.

As far as storage boxes, I use Plano and BPS branded boxes.  BPS 3700 boxes are Planos, made in the USA.

I've been interested in picking up a Shimano Blackmoon bag. They have a front load and a top load version - I had a similar bag that was front loaded, and I personally think the top load would be more useful

I have been looking at the tacklewarehouse back pack though

I have the Plano guide series like @casts_by_fly for the boat. I picked a back pack at a yard sale for bank fishing. I agree with @Joedodge and try and carry as little as I can.

I just have an old backpack with 2 3500/ and 2 3600 boxes in it. Works as good as anything. I’ve never found a tackle storage option I’m head over heels in love with but this works as good as any. Hard baits are pretty easy to store. Plastics are the one I’ve never really figured out. I’ve got all my plastics in an original bag in a 1 gallon freezer bag. Been doing this 6 or 7 years now. I’d be opened to other options. I fish z man a lot so I know they’ve gotta stay in original package most of time.

I’d try and post pics of what I carry but for the life of me can not figure out how to post pics. I used to be able to years ago. But since revisiting the forum it always says they are to big.

That’s probably my next step from my

chrap sling pack. Either a nicer sling pack. Or I’m gonna just use a back pack like I did years ago. The thing with me is tho the bigger I go the more I’ll carry. And I’ll never fish it honestly. So I have to limit myself lol

the TW sling bag is amazing.  i used it for Mexico, and i bought it for hiking the shores of lake Texoma.   perfect for both locations.    i have started using it for my buds bass boat trips.  i simply dont need a bunch of stuff anymore.

I’d probably be fine if I brought 2 3600 boxes (one with soft plastics) and one 3500 for terminal tackle for ever

My typical outfit is a kastking sling bag with 2 plano 3600 flex boxes and a little clamshell from amazon with terminal. Usually also a plano worm bag or buzbe cube with plastics/line/whatever else I need for the day.

a ziplock isn’t the worst choice. If you want sturdier you can get a Plano kvd speed bag. They hold about 20-30 bags depending on the plastic.

I’ve been considering a bait binder type deal instead of bags in a gallon bag. I’d just want a smaller compact one

That’s one way I do it as well 2 boxes and that’s it in my sling bag. I bounce back and forth between a box and gallon bag with original bags for plastics tho

For my bank fishing, BFS and most everything, I've taken to the Kastking Blowbak bag.

Cabelas Advanced Angler bags are great for big bags.

Midsized, the TackleWarehouse bag is hard to beat.

Backpack depends a lot on whether you are mostly 3700 boxes or 3600s. I don't like the ones built around the 3600's, but that's personal preference.

I second this.  My son and I both own this bag.  I also own the larger backpack version.  I fit twelve 3600 size boxes in the backpack.  Though ours are the newer design, but its the same bag.  The face of the outside pockets have changed a little from this picture. And the color.
