If so, what a beautifully written & sweet story! Thanks so much for sharing. I really enjoyed reading it. And it brings back many sweet memories of my Dad & our fishing trips together over the years.

I had my bittersweet fishing farewell with  my Dad about 7-8 yrs ago when I realized his dementia was getting too advanced for us to fish anymore. That was a sad day for me. Even more sorrowful, the dementia & old age finally got him a few weeks ago. 😥

But I still have so many fond memories of our fishing days together. Our honey hole was an old gravel pit that a buddy of his gave us permission to fish. We called it Bo’s place. No bigguns, but numerous days where we caught 40-50 bass. 😃

Thanks again for sharing this story.

You're welcome and I'm so glad it resonated with you. I've had some fine fishing moments in my life and I count that skunking with the wormy apples as one of them. I'm thinking a good thought for you as you grieve your father.

To Bo's place. To your dad.

Thank you. My Dad was a great guy and awesome father to me & my sister. Besides having a very successful military career, serving in both the Navy & Air Force, he did a lot of great works volunteering, serving & helping people after he retired from the military.

If that don't bring a tear to your eye this morning.  Gaw-lee!  Katy - beautiful and deeply relatable.

Thanks for enriching the fishing experience for us with reminder that it's about more than the tug!

Great story, thanks.  Although my dad didn't take me he set me up with his friends that took me.

We apparently are more alike than we know! My grandfather was in the Navy and Air Force as well. He was an engine mechanic. He could hear an airplane in the sky and tell you what type of engines it was running and if there was anything wrong with them. He was stationed in WA state at Whidbey Island before my dad was born. My grandmother always told us that if her mother hadn’t gotten suddenly sick and died, we would’ve been born in WA state as that was the most beautiful place they ever lived. I agree. The PNW is absolutely gorgeous and I envy people that live out there. He was stationed at NAS New Orleans during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was lying in the belly of a Douglas RB-26 taking pictures of the decks of the cargo ships. He said they would fly over one and you couldn’t see anything, then the next one was so brazen that there were military pieces all about the deck without being covered up. And everything in between…
