Largest diameter (pound test) non-braid line do you use?

And what do you use it for?  Purchased some Sufix Advance 20# (.017) Fluorocarbon.  Have a reel that's listed on the box as holding 12/170 (and that's the only mono line size listed).  Nearest I can figure is that the reel should hold 100 yards of the 20# Advance.

I don't fish large swimbaits.  If I fish a jig, it's a swim jig, not one off the bottom.  Thanks.

I thought we'd posted this often enough.

Put in diameter/length posted on reel, put in diameter of line you want to use and it'll tell you how much it holds.

That's the link I used to come up with 100 yards.  :teeth:

I use line in the .011 to .013 diameter for all my jig fishing in FC Line, primarily 12 lb Tatsu FC.

Largest diameter?  20 lb big game at 0.018”.  I also fish 22# sunline shooter at 0.0159”.

Right now the largest I use is 12 pound Big game. I have my eye on some 25 pound for punching though. I wan't to try it instead of braid. Seen it in an old Denny Brauer video.

12# is my go to for MH rods.  I have 17# on a HF.

I have the line.  I have the reel it's going on.  I have a few rod choices but need to decide what to use it for before deciding on which rod.  Obviously it won't be a BFS rod.  :toothy9:

The largest non-braid line I use is probably 20lb flouro. I think I have it on 2 rods at the moment. One is Seagaur Abrazix and the other is Invisix.

I do have a spool of 20lb Big Game, but don't know that I've got it loaded on anything. My largest mono is typically 15lb Big Game, or some 17lb Suffix Tritanium. I've found I kind of like it for a buzzbait or running large shallow spinnerbaits.

20# Shooter for flipping and pitching in most areas that I don’t punch, but not always

10lb test as leader material

  I started fishing with 8# XL.  Switched to 4# XL around the age of 16.  Have never used line as heavy as 20# except for braid.

I was afraid flipping and pitching would be one suggestion.  Not done that as yet but am considering starting to pitch short distances along the shoreline.

25lb fluoro which has a diameter of .019”.

20# as leader on my heavy pitching rig, 15# on my med-light pitching rig and my heavy jig rig - InvizX or Tatsu (when I got spare cash)

  • Super User

25lb P-Line PF Original for large (3+ ounce) swimbaits.

If surf leader counts, 40-lb Gold.

#16 Shooter on my jig rod. As big as I go,,,,,unless it’s braid.

For bass fishing 15lb mono or fluoro.  For ocean 50lb mono.

20# - Punching, Swimbaits, A-Rigs

16-17# - Flipping Jigs, Heavier T-Rigs

12-14# - most everything else on baitcasters

That’s all open water stuff? Do you bump it up when you’re up in the cover?

15lb yozuri hybrid is pretty much the heaviest I use, except for a 40lb mono leader sometimes if I'm going to be around a lot of small pike.

The largest I use for bass is 20lb Tatsu and 20lb Big Game for pitching heavy cover and fishing swimbaits.
