flippin'/pitchin' line?

Featured Replies

so i've just started really getting into pitchin' and flippin'. i've been using 17lb super braid. i've heard and read that floro is the only way to go. is this true? the only thing that worries me about braid is that the fish will see it (most of the lakes around here are clear). if the lakes i fish were all stained i really wouldn't care. so what does everyone think, should i get some floro?

thanks  :)

You read that flouro is the only way to go when flipping or just all purpose fishing?

When I flip into wood or rock cover I use 20lb Big game.  When flipping to vegetation braid is the way to go.  It cuts through it like butter.  NEVER EVER EVER EVER use braid on rock.

I've never really heard alot of people talking about flourocarbon for flipping

i've read that's it's good flippin' around bushes, wood, docks, etc.

like i said, the one thing i'm afraid of with braid is that the fish will see it in the clear lakes...

when you flip, your mainly flipping into cover.  if your flipping under a dock, the shade hides the line.  if your flipping into a logjam or whatever, the logs hide your line.  if you flip to matted grass your most likely gettin reaction strikes by hitting them on the head.  they dont have time to see the line.

my guess...it doesn't make a difference clear lake or dirty, the only difference is mind blowing hooksets and getting more fish to the boat.

Heavy floro is very popular for flipping. 20 to 25 lb test is usually what you will see for this application. Low strech, strength, abraision resistance all make it a good choice for flipping. I currently use 20 lb Gamma Edge for flipping.

i've heard good things about gamma.....

I know a few people around where I fish that have went to flouro for flipping.  My buddy is using 17# Seaguar Invisx and so far he really likes it.

I'm giving some consideration to at least putting a flouro leader on my flipping rod when in clear water.  In dirty water I think you can get away with fishing braid, but not in clear water that is heavily pressured.  The last thing I would use for flipping would be any type of mono.
