Fishing apps

Featured Replies

You see advertisements all the time for them.

I'm a "PRO" subscriber to Omnia and that comes with an app.

How the heck do fishing apps know what the water temp and clarity are for example?

DNR takes reading, also there's independent groups that take readings. Locally, the "Freshwater Society" which is headquartered just a couple miles from my house does this for various spots on Lake Minnetonka and other local lakes. They publish the data, and Omnia along with others subscribe to get that data into their apps.

I spent all of this last year experimenting with these apps to see how often their predictions coincided with my actual fishing success. I checked every time I went fishing and compared my results with the predictions.

Are they accurate? Sometimes.

Will I use them next year? No.

The only one I use these days is the fishing and hunting solunar app. It is very accurate on time tables. Whether the fish agree or not is another story.

Its 100% free to use for a 2 day period of observation through the app (today and tomorrow), but if you want the pro version, its not free, and gives unlimited look into future rather than just one day ahead.

I have been happy with the free version. Just one app for fishing is all I need.

But I will add, this one app situation is merely for fishing information. Once on the water I employ additional apps like weather alerts and a lightning alarm app for approaching lightning and bad weather. And a wind app as well along with radar apps so I can keep a good eye on weather as I fish.

I've used these and on the days when the solunar had the worst numbers, I had some of my best days.

I'm inclined to believe they don't work..at least for me.

The only app I consistently use is Windfinder when I'm using the boat.

I've seen quite a few of them. The Deep Dive app is the only one I've ever been impressed enough with to actually use.

I believe solunar tables are as accurate at predicting fishing success as a spin wheel with segments labeled ‘very good’, ‘good’, ‘so-so’ and ‘skunk’ would be.  A
