How long do you guys go with braid before you change it?  I came upon this idea to save money.  I'll just buy braid and keep it on the spoll for a year or so and I'll just use mono leader.  That way, I'm not wasting mono because I usually change out mono every few months or when it gets near the half-way mark of the spoll.

Anyone else done this or thought about it?  Yeah, I know, I shouldn't be cheap with line.

This might sound crazy but I pull off all the braid around my house and yard and spool it up again with the old end first and when I'm done all the new unused line is on the outside. ;D I usually do this after about two months of fishing. Then I have to buy a new spool to fill it up the next time.

I do this as well, but I do it once a year.  I also just feed it from one reel to the other.  You must look funny wrapping fishing line around your house. ;D ;D  I will fish a whole season, then flip the line and fish another season.  So I am basically getting two years out of that 100 yards or so.  But I also don't use my braid set-up that often.

Once a year is good.  I have line on some reels that is over 3 years old and it still fishes great.

One of the great advantages of braid is you get a lot of wear time. Once a year is great.

I have some braid going into the fourth year which hasn't even been turned around yet.  If and when it seems to be getting weak, I will turn it around.  I love that Power Pro.

With power pro you can spool from one spinning reel to the other spinning reel and the line is new on the other end.

Power Pro has no memory.

8 seasons on 15lb power pro on my steelhead stick I get about 20 to 60 days per year. It looked ratty but was causing no problems. My reason for changing line reds new.

I use mono backing, then spool on the braid (Power Pro all the way).  Typically, I only use about 75 yds of braid per reel mono for the rest.  I will change out the braid once a year this way.

i know a guy who has had the same braid on a reel for 8 years.he uses leaders of flouro.

Let's see here.  My rods are all spooled with a minimum of 30lb braid, with 12lb fluoro leaders.  I'm not a tournament fisherman, so unless and until the braid starts to dry-rot, I figure I will never have to change it, but I probably will every five years or so.

In a years time mono can become twisted, stiff, aged due to time on the boat deck with the suns UV rays hitting it and stretched.

Braid suffers from none of this.  IMO, There's little reason to change over braid on a regular basis unless you've been fishing in heavy cover and the braid itself has suffered some damage or the stuff is showing it's age due to being on the reel so long.  

I keep it on for at least 2 years.  Then I just respool onto another reel and get a couple more years out of it.

I just changed mine after 3 years because there was less than 50 yards of braid left on the spool.

Only when the amount of line on the spool is really getting slim due to cutting back to re-tie knots, or really getting ratty due to fraying. Not often, in other words.
