Used it for 5 casts, then the spool wouldn't wind. We can't get the side plate off either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Never mind all. We got it off and fixed. The spring was off and wedged under the gears.

    I would still return it. I had one given to me as a gift. spooled up went out in the yard to play with it. Look good, feel good....but they sound terrible, loose....

    I would agree that it should be returned for replacement, if your still interested in the reel. Finding a spring under a gear should never happen..

    It aint my reel anyway, it is "the captains'" reel. It is his first baitcaster. If it were my choice, it would still be at Wal-Mart.
