My First Custom Rod Thanks Flechero!

Featured Replies

I am not too sure how it happened, Flechero had a reel for sale in the Flea Market and one thing lead to another and I ended up ordering a rod to go with the reel. I have to say this turned out to be the best purchase I have made in a long time.

This rod is incredible, the blank is an All Star, the hardware is Fuji and the craftsmanship and "cool" factor are 100% Flechero. The rod is perfectly balanced and feels very light in the hand. After about ten minutes I was so comfortable fishing with it it felt like an old favorite. I got the rod Friday and was able to fish with it Friday and Saturday and it handles all my favorite fishing techniques. The best part was catching a 3 or 4 pounder on a frog.

Flechero, you are an artist. I am pretty picky and I have looked high and low trying to find anything and this build is flawless.

I can't beleive that I am putting this in print, but this rod fits my fishing style to the point where I don't need another rod. This one will do it all. With that being said I need rods and reels like women need shoes and purses. So I think I will eventually have a locker full of Turkey Run Custom rods.

I wanted to post some pictures and I haven't figured out how to do multiples in one post so sorry for the additional posts.

Here is another shot. I am going to put a Tierra on this rod as soon as they are available, I think that will look pretty slick.

A close up of the no foregrip front. The transition from reel seat to blank is ultra smooth. It is the little things like this and the over all attention to detail that just blew me away. All that plus a fair price, great communication during the build and delivering the rod on schedule. (not to mention the quality of the build exceeding my expectations) are all reasons why I will be a regular customer of Flechero's.

Thanks for letting me brag like a proud parent.

From what I can see Keith has been doing some fine work.

How was the rod wrapped? Spiral or Conventional.

Keith how did you achieve a neutral balance?

What are the color's? I see some blue...

Great Job Keith!

Tight Wraps!!!

I'll let Keith expand on all of the technical questions, but it is spiral wrapped and the thread is black with blue accents. I took a close up of one of the guides but it was blurry.

Steve,

Glad you like it! It was a fun rod to build since you spec'd it out almost exactly how I would have- it was like building a rod for myself!! (but then I had to put your name on it :-/ ...lol )

After about ten minutes I was so comfortable fishing with it it felt like an old favorite

I couldn't ask for a better compliment, thanks!

Reelmech,

Steve picked a good blank (an All Star BAT806) plus he gave me the latitude to slightly change the length of the grip, I added about 3/4" to the original plan. As you know, using the exotic burl also helps out. It's still a few grams heavy at the tip, but feels neutral if you palm the reel. I had the reel when I built the rod so it was easy to check balance as I fit the grip/seat.

It's spiral wrapped (modified "simple spiral") with Alconites and black thread with #246 (dark blue) NCP trim bands.

flechero,

Great work it gets a big 10

I hear ya on the exotic burl, although most of my builds have been tip heavies. Seems like the guys around here have gotten away from the neutral balanced rods, and back to being able to point the rod tip each cast..I feel like i'm always playing catchup with these anglers... ;)

Great Rod Enjoy G3   8-)

Way to go Flechero!

A great testimonial and a compliment from a fellow rod-builder,

it doesn't get much better than that 8-)

Roger

very nice rod!!!!!!!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

NICE!!

I took a break from rod building, still have two blanks I need to get done... an SCV Elite and SCIII Spinning for a friend.  I think you have inspired me to get back to it with that beautiful rod.

I hope to be that skillful one day.

;D
