In my bait monkey driven quest for more tackle I've come to the conclusion that life will not be complete without a Loomis rod (or two?!).

So, my question(s) is:

Between the MBR843C IMX and the MBR844C IMX which makes the most versatile soft plastic/jig rod? I like both but if you're only limited to one, which one would it be? I fish usual Texas lake cover which can be grass to wood and moderate to heavy. I'm mainly a plastic fisherman but want to learn to jig fish.

How would you rate the MBR844C as a pitching / flipping rod? Not what it was designed for I'm sure but I think it has enough *ss to get the job done. What do ya'll think??

I'd go for the MBR 843.  I have the 844 and I find it too heavy for most soft plastic unless you use a 1/4oz bullet weight or heavier.  The 843 might be easier to use if want to fish a weightless Senko or Fat Ika.  The MBR 844 is a great rod though.  For me, I like to use it for topwater, heavy coverage, and big jerk baits and cranks but for soft plastic I would think the 843 would be a better choice.

I have both.  The 844 I use for 1/2 oz jigs and larger.  I also use it for 1/2 oz spinnerbaits and 1/2 oz buzz baits.  I find that for me the 843 will handle a good range of baits 1/2 oz and smaller.  If I only had one it would be the 843.

the 844 would be my choice.  I have no trouble throwing lighter baits with it... it has a pretty delicate tip for a heavy rod.

I have an 844 GLX and I throw 1/4 jigs and weightless Senkos with it all the time.

If I only had one rod it would be the MBR844C.

Good info guys, the 844 was my first choice but after handling one and talking to a couple of guys at Sportsmans Warehouse yesterday and then handling the 843 I wasn't sure which way to go. My current "go to" rod for this same application is Shimano Crucial 7', MH, F, that's rated 1/4-1 oz like the 844 and I don't have any gripes with it......darn bait monkey is making me consider a Loomis even though what I've already got ain't broke
