which one???cabelas or bass pro?

Featured Replies

I need some help. I have about 100.00 to spend on a new spinning combo. I have narrowed it down (I think) the the bps extreme rod with a pflueger president reel. Or, a cabelas fish eagle II rod with the cabelas tournament zx spinning reel (made by diawa). The bps is 99.00 and the cabelas is 109.00, but I have 20.00 off a 100.00 purchase at cabelas. I have not experience with the fish eagle II rods. I received a bps extreme rod/ shimano citica reel combo for Christmas, but I have not fished with it yet. Anyone have any experience with either. I tend to lean toward Cabelas because they are only an hour away and have a outstanding customer service, but I really like the BPS extreme rod. I like tournament zx reel because it is all metal, while the president is graphite framed. Help.

In theory the Cabela's combo is $109 then you have a $20 coupon so that would make it only $89 plus shipping. I have a BPS Extreme rod, my only problem with it is the fact that the ceramic insert came out of the tip after a year, plus I do not care for the size of the handle. That tip porblem could've been my fault but I have never had that happen with Shimano rods which were $20 to $30 cheaper. You could try the Cabela's combo and compare the two rods and then have a unbiased opinion based off of your own preference. There really is not a best oufit only a favorite at a certain price point and budget.

Hope this helps

The tourny ZX  Baitcaster reel from Cabelas that I got is an excelent reel for the money. I have no experience with the Spinning version so I can not give any input on it

That being said< The President is my favorite Spinning reel and that graphite issue has been a big non issue for me and I have many hours of problem free fishing with them I have owned 2 BPS Extreme Rods and they were both great rods. I tend to like the rods BPS has to offer, if you gewt the rod advertised, whcih unfortunatley can be an issue with them. I would get the Prs/Extreme Combo from BPS

I am with Muddy on the issue of graphite and twisting. Penn uses graphite on their slatwater spinning reels and is renowed for the reels. And a 20# Red Drum has alot more fight than a 10-20# Bass.

Just my opinion however.

Definitely not taking anything away from the BPS Extreme stuff as I have one and it's a very good setup. But I just got a BPS Bionic Blade rod and it is a fine rod also. About $20 less than the Extreme.
