What kind of rod and reel do you guys use for swimbaits in the 1-1.5 oz. range. I'm looking to get some ideas for a new set-up and hope you guys can help me.

I really dig my Mike Long 795 by Dobyns.  Paired it with an Abu Revo Inshore, and Sufix 65 lb braid.  I ordered a Bassart 90mm handle and Bassart blue and carbon rigid knobs for it.  They should be in tomorrow....

I have the Revo Inshore so I might have to check this combo out. By the way where did you get the handle and knobs from?

i have a okuma 7ft6 heavy with a calcutta 251 on there ,,,, great little set up ... i want to get the dobyans 795ml this season however this rod is on the back burner for now .... as for the reel the calcuttas are top notch ...

An Abu inshore?? Thats kinda low buck for you isnt it? I would of expected some JDM Conquest DC or something!!! I have a St Croix Legend Tourny Swimbait rod paired with a Calcutta 300te. Love this setup. I hope to throw some swimbaits this upcoming year. I did get to throw some saltwater plugs at the end of the year and it handle fine so freshwater swimbaits should do just fine. Best thing is I picked it up  (both) for $195 ;D

A buddy of mine has a St. Croix Legend Tournament Big Jig rod and a Shimano Curado 300 for fishing swimmbaits and of course big jigs.  I had a chance to fish it and it was a nice setup.  I especially liked the Curado.  It was a monster reel compared to the other Curados.  It just felt way stronger and a little smother than the other Curados.  The rod tip maybe a little stiff for swimbaits but it worked just fine.

Mostly depend of what you want to expend.

Economical with quality and a great warranty is the Okuma 7.6 MH, perfect for the size lure you are looking for. I have it pair it with a Cardiff 201, the combo comes to around $ 200.00.

If you are planning for to invest  more, the Gary Dobyns 795 ML is upthere. I have it with a TD-Z BBS.

I tried the Powell 7.11 MH, I own the H and the Setyr 7.10 H, both great rods.

Lubina, I was looking at the g-loomis swimbait rod but after reading this I might go with Dobyns 795. I'm still trying to decide.

As for the reel I'll be using the revo inshore. By the way thanks for the info redlinerobert.

Medium size lures, it is short for the Hudd, I would get the 806 for that porpoise or the Powell H.
