I have most recently bought a Johny Morris spinning reel JM4000 and was woundering what kind of rod I should put it on it came down to either a St. Croix Premier or a Fenwick HMG both 6'6" M or MH

any thoughts or opions on these two rods? or even another rod I could have missed? this is gonning to be an all around rod.

To me there are rods, and there are ugly sticks.  You're gonna want the former in a medium heavy if you want it to be an all around rod.  You can dropshot with it just as well as you can toss soft plastics. but out of the two you mentioned the HMG is a good rod, i've heard alot of great things about them

ok sounds good I think I will chip in the extra 20 bucks and get the fenwick HMG I have heard many good stories and experences from both but seems like the HMG is very reliable rod and would make an excallent all around rod

I could not agree more ugly sticks are amazing rods I own one that makes every small and large fish seem like a monster as its only a UL 5'ish rod. they are Indestructible!! also they are very price affective rods!

Actually I'm not that big a fan of Ugly Sticks. They're good for beginers or anglers on a budget. JMHO

He is right about this! 8-) They have slightly different "feels", If I were you I would handle them both before deciding
