I was wondering if anybody has heard anything about the new wide spool spinning reels, i know that U.S. reel company i think  makes them and that bass pro has thier version. Just wondering what the deel is?

Shorter and less deep, in theory the line spooled in such reel should present less coiling, that 's good until you reach about 1/3 of the spool cuz then the line will generate a lot of friction against the spool lip and shorten the distance.

I thought it was so funny when I first saw the short wide spool reels because I can remember in the early 90's when the long shallow spools were all the rage.  They both advertise better distance.

I agree.  Even with baitcasters.  People here in the states think you need way more line than you really need.

I just bought the BPS extreme, its on sale at BPS online for 39.99 and a few guys on BR here own them and told me to snag one because they really like theirs. I figured for 39.00 I'd give it a shot. I have yet to use it but I'll let you know when I do.

I think the wide spools look kind of silly.

I would stay away from the ones made by U.S Reel Company. There was one on display at Cabela's and it was all out of whack - gears grinding etc. I told the rep they should take it off display because it was a huge turnoff...and it would cause posts like this  :

I have several of the extreme spinning reels and really like them. They cast great and I have never had any issues with them at all. However, I also have some pfluegers and shimanos that I like as well. So truthfully, I am not sure it makes any difference.

I have the BPS Pro Qualifer spinning reel ( wide spool ) and I'm very happy with it. It is my favorite reel.  Very little coiling in the line and casts very well. Would recommend.
