Buy a Curado now or wait.....

Featured Replies

I am thinking of buying a Curado 201DHSV for on my flipping rod, with the price drop it seems like a good deal, but the new ones are on the horizon.

Just curious as to what you guys think of the current Curado's and would you buy one now, or wait on the new ones to come out.

The baitmonkey says buy NOW!!!!

Everything I have read regarding "performance" has been very

positive. The size and weight is what has been criticized by some.

Put the reel on the rod you plan to use and see what you think.

Thanks,

I dont really have the option of putting the reel on the rod before purchase, as I am forced to buy online. I live in the middle of nowhere PA, its atleast 2 hrs to the nearest store that has them.

It will be going on a 7' Heavy action rod, so I am not to worried about the weight.

So its basically just a weight reduction on the new version?

The 200DHSV is a good reel it's just larger and heavier than most low profile baitcaster that are out or soon to be released.  I really like the Curados (I have a 100D, a 200DPV, and a 200DHSV).

If you don't mind the size I don't think you will be dissapointed if you buy one now.

My guess is that when the new green ones come out, retailers will have a hard time moving the old silver ones and there will be some great clearance sales.

So how patient are you?

;)

No one really knows how the new ones are going to perform yet so I would probably buy the 201 DHSV while they are still in stock then later buy a new one if the reviews are good.

I have this reel  Pros: Very smooth Con: Heavy for its class. Still a solid high speed reel. I would holdout until this model goes on super clearance or until the new reels come out at the same price point.

Great reel for frogs.

The ONLY reason I ever got rid of my 200DHSVs was that they were too big for the rods I wanted reels on.  I just bought a 200DPV (5.0:1) reel for my Fenwick Crankshaft.   For this big, thick rod the 200 size  reel size is perfect.   I got mine for way UNDER $150, brand new from a dealer.  So there was no waiting for me.  It was a no-brainer.

If you wait till the new E series comes out, you may be able to find leftover Ds for half price or better.

The new reels should be showing up on dealer's shelves mid August in limited quantities.  They should be widely available by November.  Shimano started accepting pre-orders about two weeks ago.

And yep, I've already got mine ordered.   :-[ ;D
