Standard Gear Ratio ?

Featured Replies

I was just wondering if there was a standard gear ratio for certain types of fishing, or is it just a personal choice? Like 5:0.1 for crankbaits, 7:0.1 for buzzbaits, ? for soft plastics, ? for jerkbaits, etc. etc. etc. just curious.

Thanks

 Joe

The different gear ratios are designed to make certain aspects of fishing easier. 5:1 is good for deep cranks because it makes reeling easier. A faster ratio, while it would still work fine, would be much more tiring. 7:1 ratio is good when you need to pick up slack for a hookset, such as when you are fishing jigs. 6:1 is what many people consider a good all around ratio.
