Rod for deep water jigging

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I have a question I can't make my mind on. Which rod would you use for deep water jigging? Normally I fish football heads and finesse jigs in 15-30ft of water.

Berkley Lightning Rod, 7ft Medium/Heavy Rod or a BPS Bionic Blade 7ft Medium Casting Rod.

Also, any other suggestions would be nice. I like buying new rods every once and a while.

While both rods are fine I would go with a MH fast action  ;)

between those two, would go with the medium heavy as well.

that said, have been using an mh/xf (bcr803) in 30' of water here lately and i've grown to prefer it over the mh/f and h/f i've used in the past.

just one more choice to look at.

I have fished jigs for many years and finding the right rod has been a major problem.  Had the chance to use an American Rodsmiths jig rod and was amazed at how light and sensitive it was.  They have several models in various price ranges.  I have several of their rods now and highly recommend them.

I'd use an xtra fast MH rod.  I am currently using a 7'2" MH Shimano Cumara and it is absolutley the best rod for football Jigs that I have ever used.

That's the rod that came to my mind too.

Alabama, you definitley want a rod with some backbone for deep-water football jigs. The X-fast, MH Cumaras are meat sticks. ;)

I use a G Loomis MBR844, its a 7 foot Heavy with fast action

If you decide to jump up to G.Loomis, buy the IMX series.

We recently had one in the Flea Market.

The MBR844 is my favorite rod and IMO the best rod I have ever used.

And yes it is IMX!
