I just bought a St. Croix Premier 7'0" Medium Heavy rod.  I am going to put a Shimano Citica D on it with 12 pound line.  

Will this reel be strong enough to handle this rod and line?

I'm fishing soft plastics on it.

Sounds like a good setup and that rod/reel will handle even heavier line or braid for fishing in heavier cover.

I did forget to mention that the reel is two years old but i've taken good care of it so im ready to start catching fish with it once it warms up again
