I am looking into purchasing a G. Loomis shr822s for shaky head fishing.  Their website stated that the rod is med. mag power which is fine.  I just need some ideas on a reel to stick on it.  I looked a Qunatam Energy 30 series which seemed nice...please help

I put a Pflueger Supreme 8030 on my SHR 821. Couldn't be happier.

Had  a stradic 2500 on my original shaky head rod, then went to a Daiwa Tierra 2500, but now I shaky head with a baitcaster with a daiwa fuego (I enjoy it much better).

I like a 20-series reel for most bass spinning applications. Something that holds 100-125 yds. of 8-lb. test serves me well.

My favorites are the higher-end Quantum reels. I have an Energy PTi-20 and it works great for a variety of techniques. The magnetic bail trip and overall build quality on the Icon, Kinetic, and Catalysts are good in my opinion. Of course, Shimano's mid to higher end spinning reels have also been great. We've used them in saltwater fishing for years and they've functioned very well.

If you can afford it, I'd get the SHR822S GLX. If you can't afford it, don't even touch it, definitely don't pick it up. You'll be skipping the electric bill and cable bill before you leave the store without it. It is hands down the lightest, most sensitive spinning rod I have ever picked up.

I used the regular SHR822S for a little while and thought it was a great rod, its just not as light as the GLX and it doesn't have the recoil guides.

I've got 2 different reels that I use on my GLX. A Sustain 2500 and a Pflueger Supreme 8030MG. I like the Supreme better simply because it's very light.

It seems like more and more people are going to B/C stuff for techniques like this....

While I like better accuracy and power with a B/C, In my mind the shakey head, more than anything else (except maybe a tube) needs to be able to fall on a slack line

I think it's just the opposite. More and more pros carry

spinning tackle  for a variety of finesse techniques.

Spinning tackle is generally a better choice for light line.

I as well use a stadic 2500 and the megastrike shake e jig and love it. I also am going to use the zipper worm by roboworm

I have the shr822 and it is the best spinning rod I have ever touched. I paired it with a supreme 8035xt. Awsome performer.....

I too agree on these jigs, they are very cool. As for your rod I would take a look at the Carrot Stix and the new Mojo rods, alot less money and they are great rods.
