Fast vs Slow action

Recommended Posts

Can someone explain the difference in rods with a "fast" tip vs rods with a "slow" tip? I have a old 5'6" Daiwa Eliminator pistol grip rod that I just love. I can feel every revolution of a spinner bait blade and even the most subtle vibrations of a crankbait. This rod does not have much flimsy play at the tip, actually it barely moves at all at the tip. It is a MH action rod BW. Also, is there a rule of thumb for what type of rod to use with specific lures or is it just personal preference?

Thanks

Gomer

Check out the "Important" topics section of this thread (at the very top). There is an entire sticky thread on it.

There are different rod sizes with different actions for different techniques.

IE:

Topwater/Spinners/Cranks

Jigs

Worms

Specific sizes will vary from person to person preference wise but its usually fairly similar. Also spinning / BC reels are used with different set ups.

Do some research there's a ton of info on this in the article archives.

then I have 2 spinning set ups that just get tossed into the mix
