Looking for a new Baitcasting reel

Featured Replies

I am looking to get a new Baitcasting reel, and wanted to know if you guys like the Bass Pro Shop line of reel.  Is it worth it or should I keep looking.

get a pflueger.i've owned both and pfluegers are better.get a president , patriarch or patriarch xt.

Get Abu Garcias Revos, any of them is good

I think Bass Pro Shops baitcasters are pretty good.  Good enough I bought 5 of the Extremes.  I am well pleased with their performance.  For what I paid for them I don't think it's possible I could have gotten another reel for the same money that had all that they do, aluminum frame and all.  Get them on sale for $60 or $65 and they're about the best value going.  The castability of them compares to reels costing a whole lot more.

Well, as you see from the responses, everyone has a favorite

brand. The advantage of buying a BPS house brand is ease of

exchange or replacement. If you go that route, be patient, they

are always on sale. You might consider a combination since the

savings are really good. Just keep an eye out for specials.

Good luck!

I've seen nothoing but great things from both rods and reels from BPS. Go for it.

I have several BPS Brand Reels (Johnny Morris Signiture, Rick Clunn Signiture, Extreme, & Bionic Plus).  They are all pretty good, but I have been most impressed with the Rick Clunn Signiture Reel.  This reel is really comfortible to fish with and I think it offers a lot for a sub-$100 reel.

Man this site is great all the info realy help's out.  Money is going to be tight and that is why I am leaning to the BPS reels, I will try to keep it under $60, that is if the wife argee (LOL).  Thanks everyone I will let you know what I get.

I have always used BPS reels until recently I decided it was time to upgrade my equipment. I have a BPS spinning reel that my dad bought over 15 years ago... and use it every time I go fishing. I have not bought any BPS brand reels recently, but most of them I use have not let me down.

I have a BPS reel and so far it seems to be of fine quality. One problem you can encounter with any house or signature brand is that the manufacturer can change from year to year. This make repair and maintenance challenging for anyone except where you bought it.

From the Extreme up seem to be pretty nice reels.  I had an old Pro Qualifier that was a nice reel and a buddy who used to fish with alot of the older extremes and liked them.

I just bought a new Curado and rod today at BPS...the older salesman who helped me with my purchase told me that all of the 09 BPS reels are manufactured by Pflueger. Not sure if this is correct or not....maybe someone out there knows?

If not Pflueger specifically, probably one of the same plants that Pure Fishing uses.

Just remember they will be built to Bass Pro's spec's.
