Potomac river reel dunk.

Featured Replies

Do you guys think one of my Daiwa Zillions will be ok after being dunked in the Potomac near Gravelly Point for about 10 seconds?  It's a long story about how this happened, but but basically, a dock employee accidentally flipped me and my dads boat while we were in it.  Does anyone know how salty the river water is near Gravelly Point

Did you hose it down with clean water ?

I took off the side plate and took out the spool.  Then I washed everything off.  I didn't take the reel fully apart though.

It will be fine. I don't think its that salty, but I did the same thing.its been about a month, so unless the effects start after that, mine is fine.

Be sure to give it a good rinse.

just rinse it off. you'll be fine.

Only one possible problem. The silt and dirt particles that are in the water will stick to any part that is greased (fresh water rinse will not remove that). That is why a rinse is good, but a complete break down is better.

Just my .02¢..

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

I agree.  Just about every full dunking inevitably leads to a full super clean and lube.  Up here its even worse, as it only takes a 20 minutes or so for baby zebra mussels to start encrusting the reel.  They are a pain to scrub out of gear teeth, LOL.
