I had a 100  series reel sitting idle and my Redbones were on sale so I bought a ml 7' 6/12 1/4-1/8.  Got home and compared the rod to my clarus 6'6 medium power 6/12 1/8-1/2 rod, the Redbone even though rated less power has way more backbone than the Clarus (30 supreme mounted).

Option 1. keep new Redbone and switch reels

Option 2. exchange Redbone for another bone 6'6 light 4/10 18-1/4

Option 3. return it, I have too much stuff already

I have a Red Bone as a beater pole, they are a bit heavy in action and weight, but are good for inshore saltwater applications.  If you have another reel around I'd keep it, but  only if I got a deal on it. If you paid close to full retail I'd return it and go to Gander Mountain this weekend, they are have a MEGA sale, hopefully they will actually put some good equipment on sale. This would satisfy you turning in your "man card" and get a "stud card" for upgrading!

Pretty sure option 2 is getting the nod.  I like these rods, this would be my 6 th, 1 off shore spinning and 4 inshore, I find them to be light, but I do 4 martini pull ups a day.

Sir Snook, you make a valid point. There is no consistency in rod power ratings.

All you really be sure of is, a MH is more powerful than a M, if you're comparing rods within the same lineup. ie, Avid to Avid.

I wish all the rod manufacturers would adopt the Common Sense (Cents) System.

We could all then be able to make informed comparisons, and decisions.
