new bps crankin sticks or ?

Recommended Posts

this year im working on upgrading my rods n reels where needed and i need a rod for my DD22's and little john DD's currently i have a 7'6" m crankin stick (last years model) and its great for fat free shads and those type of baits but when i put on anything bigger i feel like the rod cant handle the resistance of the bigger bill so i need a different rod for that. i was looking in the new bps catolougue and found this combo http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10205080____SearchResults and was wondering if anyone has experience with the new crankin sticks i was thinking about a 7'6" mh or 7'10mh. im not to worried about the winch as ive allready heard good things about it but if not the crankin stick what about a 7'10" mh KVD rod....feel free to throw in other options.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have expierience with the 2010 version of the Crankin stick, that said with the previous version I use the 7'6" MH for crankin' deep divers like the DD22 and it does a terrific job for that application.

If I understood your original post correctly you're using the Med action rod for deep divers, try the MH you will see a big difference.

I use 15lb flouro on my PT tour with a 7'10'' MH crankin stick a lil less stretch helps me drive the hook in good. I also Change my hooks out for owner st trebles they are super sharp!

Great advice on using Floro, I use 12 lb Trilene 100%.

thanks i just need to decide whether i want the 7'6" or 7'10"

If you can get away with the longer rod, go for it.  You'll be able to make longer casts, thus keeping your bait in the strike-zone longer.

Go with the 7'10". It will move more line thus making hooksets easier and more powerful at the deeper depths.

7'10" will really give your hookset some umph. And you will be able to throw your lures a heck of alot farther believe it or not. Pair it up with a Revo winch. And your good to go. A Revo SX will do though ;)
