I have a spool of 8# that doesn't get much use. Would it be detrimental to landing fish with with a baitcast reel? I would also be using this rod and reel for general purpose as well.  I have a 6'6" MF vendetta and a Black Max(upgrading to a Revo SX soon). Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! I use 10 lb hybrid with no problems.  just make sure your drag is set and you should be good to go.

That line will work well for all but the biggest cranks.  I use 10# mostly but I use 8# with my 6'6" M/MF rod and Daiwa Sol.  It works well with cranks like shad raps and such.  Not so much for DD22s. 

Sounds like it would be great - Yo-Zuri says that the 8lb actually tests at 12lb so you have a thinner diameter to go deeper but still have 12lb breaking strength...

i use the 8# in the smoke color and love it its super strong i havent ha d a brake just set ur drag a lil bit looser then u would if u were using a bigger pound test

8# for cranks is fine.  Maybe too light for the spinnerbaits though.

I wouldn't use it around rocks. That line is not very abrasion resistant and adding a thin diameter on top of that might cause problems if there are rocks around.

Yep, if you want to use 8 lb. line for crankbaits, switch to PLine CXX.

Hitchhiker, the spinnerbaits that I use range from 3/16oz-5/16oz, would these sizes of spinnerbaits work ok with 8# Yo-Zuri?

When I fish with spinnerbaits, I'm using 3/8 to 3/4 oz baits and fishing it around rocks or other heavy cover, or slow rolling them close to the bottom.  I'm usually fishing 15 fluoro or 12 if it's not too hairy.  With those smaller baits 8 should be ok as long as the cover isn't that bad.  Just my .02.

Thanks for your advice, the cover is not that snaggy(I have learned by losing lures), its mostly small to medium sized branches, weeds and hydrilla , I fish a city lake that gets fished A LOT... I live in Orange County and havent made it out to any real lakes yet.

I've thrown spinnerbaits, and 1/2oz cranks with my spinning rig that has 6lb yozuri on it...just be careful.. ;D

the largest line i use is 15lb hybrid. and i dont remember the last time i broke a fish off.

8lb. hybrid will be awesome for cranking ditches and contours in 5 to 15 ft.  also be really good for stickbaits like xraps, rouges and pointers. big cranks though may stretch it too much, and any shallower and you may be too thick in the cover for that 5lber to stay on.

These are usually city park lakes/ponds..not much "structure" except for some weeds, small branches, and the like..And yes, I have lost a couple of spinnerbaits, and 1 crank.

I wouldn't use 8lb in a normal lake, I go to 12lb.
