Re: Turn off your ceiling fans.

Recommended Posts

I have almost had that very same thing happen to me. Now I almost always remember to check the ceiling fans before I pick up my rods.

Haha, love the reaction, although I bet it was staged for the blooper reel for a laugh. "Dag Gommit!"

You might think so, unless you've ever seen the one where he hooks a hornets' nest and has them flying around while he's swatting at them with his hat and finally jumps in the water.  I doubt anybody would do that on purpose just for the blooper reel. ;D

did that to one of my swimbait rods , lucky the fan was going on a slow speed so it didn't break the rod , left a slight mark on it and thank god it hasn't weakened it at that spot :D

This was on low too. Probably why I didnt notice it was on being that its pretty loud on high. I think it caught on the shroud around the fan motor, and the blade come along and snapped it. I can't see this rod being broken that easily.

I've had it for less than 30 days, I wonder if Bass Pro will replace it? I know most don't cover a broken tip, but I guess its worth a call tomorrow.

Why should BPS take the hit for your mistake?  :-?

I've done it before to a cheap rod, but it didn't break it. I have been extremely paranoid though about my 744 champion extreme because its so long and my fan in my room is always on high. Also my dx702sf has such a soft tip I know if it gets in that fan it'll be a goner as well.

Because they are a good company

I called and asked them this morning if they replace rods with a broken tip if its still under 30 days. He asked what rod it was, I told him, and he said "Yeah, bring it in and we'll give you a replacement." He didn't ask me how I broke it or anything. I went there, they gave me the choice of replacement, exchanged it and I was on my way.

I ended up getting a 7'6", same power and action. That way, I'm getting longer casts, and room for tip replacement if I ever happen to snap it off again. But now that my fan just plain doesn't work anymore, I plan to leave it that way. So that won't be happening again.

Aww crap. I deleted the original post. That edit buttons a little close to the delete button :-[

Well, jist was my rod went in the ceiling fan, I cussed a lot, and decided to rant on here and hopefully get that thought stuck into the back of some other peoples minds to look up before you handle your fishing rods.

Good news is the fan is broken for good now.

They have warranties.

Why should a warranty cover consumer mistakes?

then you wonder why these companies don't honor warranties or even worse , don't offer warranties  :;) you know doing the things you mentioned is a form of fraud and all of us has to get hit with the repercussions  >:D

How is it a form of fraud? Them taking my rod with a broken tip and replacing it? I called BP and asked if a broken tip was covered by their 30 day warranty, and the guy I talked to asked me what kind of rod it was and then told me it was. They didn't ask me anything about what happened, he just took it, asked for my receipt, I showed it to him, and he said "Ok, I'll be back in a minute." And came back with two rods I could pick from, that I'm pretty sure were both previously used and returned. But I'm not complaining, I was going to eat my loses and buy another one(which I have bought a second since then). THEY are the ones who replaced it, I didn't do anything other than hand it over to them.
