I need some input on the Powell 683

Featured Replies

I am considering buying a Powell 683. Has anyone used this rod? And if you have what would be your input. I am looking to use this for worm, jig and possibly some froggin.

Awesome all around utility rod.  You'll love it.  Might be a little light for froggin though.

I've had the Powell Max 683 for about 2 yrs now. I would say the 683 is a little too lite for your desired applications. The tip is more suited to treble hook applications. Smaller cranks and topwaters.

It is a great rod for what it was intended.

A 684, 704 or a 734 might better be suited for you.

I've got these as well.

The 683 is a great rod.  I mainly use it for texas rigs and jigs but would use it for anything else.  It is also very sensitive.

I don't have a 683, but I would agree with this post. I do have a 703, 704 and a 734. I find the 703 a little light for these applications (great for topwaters and square bill cranks). The 704 or 734 are perfect. 734 works well for frogs. I just used it this past weekend for froggin (first time - don't get to do much froggin) and it performed very well.

Wow, I have a 682 CEF, 683CEF, 684CEF, 703CEF, 704CEF, CB684, GlassCB702, GlassCB703, GlassCB754, and I have never felt like the 683CEF would feel like a treble hook rod.  The intended uses printed on the rod are pretty much spot on for my taste.

I have one and mainly throw a 1/8 weight with worm or 3/16 jig. Also throwing topwater poppers with it. All around rod, but mainly with the lower end weight. Highly recommend one.

Thanks for the input guys. For what I have in mind I think I will go with the 684. I have several rods at the lighter end and I was looking for a rod with some real muscle.
