cortland masterbraid , welcome to the best braid ....

for all those that thought power pro , suffix , diawa samuri and fireline braids were the best offerings , take a look at Cortland's master braid ! i know Dodgeguy is going to be mad , but his fireline 8 strand/carrier braid is a little behind on technology , Cortlands braid is 12 strand/carrier !!!! it is a little stiffer than most braids , but when the wind is blowing , you will appreciate it cause you will not get wind knots like diawas samuri braid , personally i hate soft braid and that is the time i change my braid out for new line is when it does get too soft . and in case your thinking i'm sponsored by cortland , i wish !!! but NO, i am not or for that matter any other company !!!

so give it a try , you might just find your new favorite braid , i did  :(

they finally have it for sale at tackle warehouse  http://www.***.com/Cortland_Masterbraid/descpage-CMSTBRD.html

and another thing , their 50 lb. line has an 8 lb. dia.  , yes even smalller diameter than samurai ( their 40 lb. is of 8 lb. dia.)  :)

wow priced very well to!

Dont go by pound test to judge line Dia.. what Daiwa calls 8# Dia might not be what they call 8# Dia. Daiwa is crazy thin and the only braid I will use however I will try this it looks good.

If its thinner then Daiwa then its just to thin to handle abrasion well... Thats Daiwas only down fall its not the most abrasion resistant braid there is and thats because its so thin and if this is thinner with will have that same problem and even worse.

All I have on my Calcutta 400's and Trinidads for muskies.  I have one 301 swimbait rod with 65 on it.  I dig it a lot.

Is cortland smooth to the touch like Daiwa Samurai?  Would it make noise in recoil guides?  The samurai is silky smooth and casts ridiculously far and makes no noise.  I'm using on spinning gear and I love it.

it is a stiffer braid , almost like how power pro is when it is new . softer lines are more susceptible to wind knots and tip wrap . this line is a VERY compact line , it is a 12 carrier braid !! here is the description from Tackle warehouse -

Utilizing nearly 100 years of braiding experience and technology, Cortland Line introduces the next generation of premium super braid - Cortland Master Braid. With only 4% stretch, a small diameter pound/test ratio and a unique hydrophobic coating, Master Braid slices through the water and comes back dry.  Constructed using all the best features of Cortland's legendary Spectron braided line, it includes a unique coating that makes it permanently stiff, and is also rounder than other braided lines - which means less twist, greater accuracy and longer casts.  In addition, Cortland Master Braid features a proprietary Cortland process that permanently bonds the color and finish to the fibers of the braid, eliminating the fading and flaking so common with competitive braided lines.

A great option for spinning and casting reels.

Equiv. Mono dia.  30/6lb , 50/8lb , 65/15lb , 80/18lb

the factory where cortland rods and line is about 2 hours from my house, i have never used any of their products but i heard their fly rods are very good

This doesn't mean it's thinner. What Daiwa considers an average 8 lb. diameter line is probably different than what Cortland considers as an average 8 lb. diameter line. It may be thinner, but it will be hard to tell since Cortland doesn't provide the actual diameter of the braid.

Why don't you guys like soft braid? I like braids that are soft. We aim to have soft mono, why does that change with braid?

thats what I said lol... I have looked all over for the Dia. so that LB test doesnt mean anything to me... Im gonna order a spool and play with it and see what its all about.

i think any advancement in braid is great.12 carrier does not always mean smoother.i would like to feel some of it.12 carrier does not also mean rounder.if it is smoother and round and does not digg then it would be awesome.stiffer is better.no mono is as soft as braid.the stiffest braid is still limper than any mono.stiffer braids will wind knot less than limper braids.they will also backlash less at the start of a cast.

I guess I've just never had that many issues with wind knots. The only time I get them is when I'm using really, really light braid on an UL

i just got off the phone with the Cortland company , they will give me all the true specs and i will post them here . there is some irregularity as to the true specs since they have made some changes . the real specs have these lines as VERY round ( 12 carriers/strand) and alot thinner than most all the brands we have been using , will post back soon  :(

I believe what you're saying but you need to realize that the Daiwa Samurai Braid is ridiculously thin.  Its almost too thin really.  The "measurements" on the box are completely off and when I buy it I always buy a much higher lb test to compensate for that.

Also thinner isn't necessarily better. As you know, for casting gear you "need" a certain amount of thickness.

Anyway I'm sure its quality stuff.  Let us know when you actually fish it.  I'm interested in how it handles, though I've never had tip wrap problems with daiwa samurai.

Love me some PowerPro.

That is because you have learned to use your thumb on a baitcaster.

Limp braid for me, all the way.
