How long is line good for?

Featured Replies

I have some line that is 1, and 2 years old. I keep them in my apartment, so they have been kept at room temp and out of the sun. Would they be ok to use, or should I buy new line, and use the old stuff for backing?

I've got line much older than that that is as fresh now as when I bought it. The way you store it is fine. Sunlight is the biggest line killer.

BTW, I'll be up your way the first week of June at Big Bass Lake. Some of the best fishing I've ever done has been there  :)

I've got some that must be nearly 10 tears old and it's still fine. Think about how long it takes nylon to breakdown.

I've also had line stored for years that was just fine. Of course, like yours, it was not exposed to the elements.

Depends, I respooled every season when I was using Mono or Co-Polymer line but now I only use braid and only the portion that gets used hard needs to be cut of and/or replaced.
