Tips for fishing Lake Fork....

Featured Replies

Im heading to Dallas Oct 16-23 to fish Lake Fork with lil brother who just got a nice boat. I've fished Fork once about 12 yrs ago with a good friend but haven't fished there since. For those of you who have or do fish Lake Fork, what type of map would you suggest I buy to aid in navigating the lake and finding good fishing spots? I'm sure the water temps would be dropping possibly 15-20 degrees between the middle of Oct and Nov. Do you think the fish would be moving into shallow water by then? Maybe fish some of the tributaries off the main lake? Just lookin for some good ideas and pointers. I don't see lil bro often and I would like our trip to Fork to be as productive as possible....

If he doesn't have navionics or hot maps on his gps get a Martins paper map.  IMHO it's the best paper map of Fork.  There are a lot less visible  trees now than there was 12 years ago but they are still there, so take your time out of the boat lanes.

Basic rule at Fork--find the grass, you'll find the bass.  That should be a great time to fish fork.  Chrome traps, swim baits, spinner baits, swim senko, and yellow majic is what I'd have tied on as well as a jig n pig.  Water temp should be dropping so watch for schoolies chasing shad.

Matt should jump in with more specifics and read Tom Redington's reports.  His are usually right on with little or no guide BS.  Good luck!

Without any electronic aids, is this grass you're talking about visible from the boat? Make's me want to just buy a fish finder for this trip. ;)

Some of the grass is visible, but a sure fire way to find it is to look for coots.  They are almost always near the grass.
