For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports

Yeah, I had heard that about the walleye there. I put my boat in for a bit Saturday evening and found a large south side area that none of the boating crowd goes near. I was interested in it because there looked like there was a lot of structure (lots of trees, lots of different depth changes and lots of grass surrounding the banks) and obvious targets to focus on but that was my question - was the lake worth it or not. I think I will have to try Jacomo more and I've heard some good things about Watkins Mill just north of Kearney. Back in the day the KC Star used to have a weekly fishing report, other than this page is there any other public forums or info as to where the largemouth are biting locally? I know of a lot of local lakes but now that I am no longer stuck on the bank I want to get to some different bodies of water. Problem is with limited time and an 8 year old son that loves to fish but has a short attention span I need to do research and make sure I make a smart choice as to where we should go.

KC Star still has a fishing report.

A lot of activity on this Lee's Summit Fishing Facebook page, can be very helpful.

Had another extended weekend this week and got out a few times because of it. Caught a ton of fish, especially on my first night fishing adventure of the year. Several fish over 4 pounds in the process.

How often do you make those all blue chatterbaits and what would you want for one shipped?

I like the look of this LS Facebook fishing page! Any other ones on either side of the state line I should check out?

Whenever someone asks for any of my baits. Right in the middle of moving right now but you can send me a PM if you want to talk about them.

Fished Olathe this morning. Been a while since my last trip there.

Lake is not currently in a good state. Water is muddy. About one foot visibility. Floating debris everywhere.

The few fish I caught were very skinny. Only place I could catch any fish was very shallow in the water willows.

Besides water willows, I did not see any vegatation in the whole lake.

The thermocline was very distinct on my graph. Roughly 10 foot deep.

The new recreation area is open. There were a lot of rental kayaks on the water. Not the quiet little lake I was accustomed to.

Maybe the water will clear up when the construction is done.

Until then I will be fishing elsewhere

That's weird, it was the clearest I've ever seen it a couple weeks ago when we fished it last time for a Thursday nighter, probably 3-4 feet of visibility. It was crawling with kayakers, people swimming from the beach (which I've heard they just recently cracked down on to encourage people paying to use the new swimming area), and people walking around randomly. The fish we caught were pretty healthy. Had 8 keepers over 18" between 5 or 6 boats up to nearly 4 pounds. I think my son and I had the smallest one at right at 18" and just shy of 3 pounds. Here's half of them that I can find pictures of.

I wonder if they just did some more construction near the mouth of the creek that muddied the whole lake up and shut them down?

I did notice they put rock walls int he back of the east cove and the very back of the lake . I assume that is to catch silt.. Maybe that will help clean the water in the future.

The muddy water surprised me. Last time I was there it was pretty clear and I caught several fish.

When I saw the plans for the lake, it showed the east cove was to be blocked off to boat traffic completely. I'm not sure if that's still happening or if they decided not to do it but that would be a big loss to boat fishermen out there.

Fished Mound City for a few hours this morning. Slammer was good for awhile, bladed jig bite was pretty good over what grass I could find which was way more sparse than in past years, and that was about it. No flipping bite to speak of, just very randomly catch one here or there, maybe 5 or 6 total and only 1 off wood. No big ones but lots of good quality fish.

I'm seeing a lack of vegetation in a lot of smaller impoundments I'm on as compared to last year. I think it may have something to do with the recurrent high water.

I've been fishing an hour here and there at smaller, city and neighborhood lakes around SKC. They're loving the small poppers around vegetation and flipping baits along wood cover. Weedlines aren't as pronounced so many folks are missing them, but if you know the water, just beneath the surface, you can luck into some killer bites.

Hey everybody, it’s been a long time since I’ve checked in but I haven’t had time to go fishing much lately. I did get out to Shawnee twice in the past few weeks though and it’s been kind of slow both times. But what I did catch came right off of weed patches and the best way I found to catch them was a buzz frog drug right across the weeds

Recently sold my big boat & looking for a smaller one so for now stuck on the bank. Any suggestions will be appreciated

I was just wondering how Shawnee was doing now that I'm 30 minutes closer to it. I know the pleasure boat traffic has been bad out there this summer with all the big lakes closed down.

Douglas County has lots of bank access and fish usually are very willing to bite, but size is lacking a bit. Spring Creek/Baldwin City Lake is kind of tough to fish from the bank but it's close by too as well as a couple walk in fishing ponds.

Yeah there has been a bunch of jet skis and ski boats but the couple times I’ve been out it hasn’t been too terrible in terms of them going back and forth right next to you
