MaxDal Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Hello y'all, The friend of a good friend of mine caught a 5,230 kg bass. This is the new french record. I was able to take a very quick look at pictures, but I can't show you them yet, because of rights... It seems a fishing magazin (Predators) bought the pictures and should publish them in its july issue. I don't know where they are in the certifying process. I know the bass has been caught in the Toulouse region on a live magic shad (Lake Fork). The fish was pretty small (63 cm) but is a barrel. A behemoth. I know european records are a joke, since there ain't no viable record office. But I'm pretty sure that's the biggest european bass I've ever seen. I will keep you posted on the subject. The bass on the picture below was the former French record. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted May 17, 2008 Super User Posted May 17, 2008 That's huge for Europe! I still have a long way to go! http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1210185742/0 Quote
MaxDal Posted May 17, 2008 Author Posted May 17, 2008 Well congrats to your new PB, Daniel ! I didn't know about it. And by the way, that is a huge fish for europe by all means. I'd sign for even just a 3 kil. I guess I'll have to go to Mountain and cheese land sometimes. As for this potential new french record. Little info is available for the time being. Only a handful of persons heard about it. We will see ! By the way, we only have northern strained largemouth in France (in europe for that matter). Quote
Super User T-rig Posted May 17, 2008 Super User Posted May 17, 2008 By the way, we only have northern strained largemouth in France (in europe for that matter). Thanks max! I read somewhere sometime ago that they introduced florida strain bass in portugal. Don't know if it's true? What's you're guess on my bass? (I'm 187cm tall and weigh 100kg ) Quote
MaxDal Posted May 17, 2008 Author Posted May 17, 2008 Well pretty hard to tell. I've never caught a 4 kilo bass. Since you're pretty big, tall I meant ... I would say between 3,7 and 4. Could be 4 ! We sometimes have big bass here that have impressive broad "shoulders". Did you get to measure the length and girth of the fish ? that would help. PS: for our American friends, 3,6 is 7.9lbs and 4 is much like 8.8lbs Quote

Super User T-rig Posted May 17, 2008 Super User Posted May 17, 2008 Max, I didn't measure the fish. It wasn't that long but very broad and fat. I don't think it had 4kg. My guess is around 3.7kg. Kistler rod? The rod I'm holding in the pic is a megabass destroyer bearing down type s. I did get a kistler helium ltx from a friend as a present (the real seat was damaged and I fixed it, but the rod is brand new). Sweet rod! Quote

Although I don't speak French, I do have some copies ofboth "Le Pecheur" and "Predator", the latter seems to be a really exciting magazine. So I hope that there will be a nice article about this record bass. Please let us know when the magazine is out! Although it is not available for sale here in Cyprus, I might make arrangements to get it from France for my archives. By the way, in an older issue of "Le Pecheur" (Juin 2005), there is an article entitled "La Chypre: une ile faite" which describes bass (and sandre) fishing here in Cyprus. This article about bass (an American fish) in Cyprus was written in a French magazine by Konstantin Kuzmin, a good friend from Russia! Bass fishing is truly an international sport! 8-) 8-) 8-) Quote
MaxDal Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 Hi Cybasser, Like they say, don't judge a book by its cover. I can read french of course and I can tell you Predators is not much of a magazine. The quality of the articles is pretty low when it comes to techniques. They only have good graphics and fun layouts to attract the younger fishermen and a no-kill spirit, which I gotta say is a huge departure from what we had thus far. But it's way too expensive and full of ads. As for Le Pêcheur, they are improving but still have a long long way to go. Too many trash pictures and stuff.... I only read US magazines for Bass.... no serious mag in Europe. I'll keep you posted on the Predator issue. I'm not sure I read this article you're talking about. But I know that most articles about Cyprus that are published in french magazines are usually pretty "trash". Lots of dry killed bass, pictures of week-fresh zanders. Quote

Hi again Max, Well, I take your word regarding "Predator" as for the most part I only could understand in general what the article was about (for some reason regarding bass they seemed to strongly support jig-and-pig fishing in the issues I have!). Thanks for keeping me updated on the issue regarding the record bass, I try to collect as much info as possible regarding the issue of large bass both for US but also (and mainly!) for Europe.... Now, you mention there are more articles in French magazines regarding Cyprus? I would be very interested to hear about those. The one I told you about certainly doesn't show dead bass or zander. But I didn't expect that there were more relevant articles in the French magazines. I would appreciate any further info you can give me (feel free to contact me via pm). I know there is at least one magazine for fishing travel published in France (in the issue I have they promote bass fishing in Maroque, issued around august 2006)... Quote

I'm sure that our fishing authorities will be very interested to know about their "achievements" > Quote
MaxDal Posted May 19, 2008 Author Posted May 19, 2008 Hey y'all from faraway Cyprus.... I'm sorry I won't be able to provide you with those articles. I don't store magazines.... at least not the french ones. But I'm pretty sure it was older than 2005. Not in Le Pêcheur de France though, rather in "Voyages de Pêche". And another one in La Pêche des Carnassiers I think. The guys that went there were most likely zander fishermen (brackovitch style) ..or should I say zander killer (even here in France). So the Bass in Cyprus were just another kind of food for them. Pretty lame but most people still do the same here on the continent. I also read serious article about bass fishing in Cyprus, but I guess Cyprus never became a dream destination for Europeans because of the distance for most and the redundant lack of water, which was always empharsized in every single article. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure I read another Cyprus related article in a german magazine. I don't know if you speak german but you might want to check Der Raubfisch or Fisch & Fang. Ask Daniel.... he should know more than me about it. Quote
Vyron Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 congrats 2 ur friend for the record. anything above 5kg is a dream for europe. as for cyprus , wrong prehistoric management of government results what u mention above. Maybe in 50 years we ll change. Its pity cause we had the potential 2 grow monster bass. 2 years ago every outing i was catching a bass > 2.5 kg which was outstanding . now ... u don't even want 2 get near the dams or what is left of them. so ... lake nasser here i come baby ihaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Quote
