I'm fishing a tournament as a boater on the sassafras river next weekend and I'm wondering what to expect. I've never fished it before. Any advice? I'm planning on using lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, and jigs mostly. Any other suggestions.

I normally run the upper channel across the top of the Flats from Havre De Grace to get into the North East River. Can you run directly across the mouth of the Northeast River (west to east) to get to Cara Cove? Do I need to come into the North East River a bit to pick up the channel or is there safe water across the mouth?

I go straight across but watch out for a few trees
