I just found out about Lake Cochituate last weekend and am going there this Saturday. Can anybody give me any tips or info on this place? North, Middle, or South Basin??? Plastic worns or swimming baits?? Thanks

first of all, here is the masswildlife pond map

as you can see north pond is extremely deep, and i find it impossible to fish so I usually skip that part of the pond all together...

I usually fish middle pond right in the little area near the masspike, and hit the shore hard where its relatively shallow, lots of cover and a few docks as well.  Theres also a few lillypads in that section near the pike.  

I also fish the area in between rt. 30 and masspike because its relatively quiet and there is a lot of downed trees where i've caught a bunch of bass and pickerel.

its a little weedy in the shoreline areas so i would reccomend weedless soft rigged baits.

Its gonna be real hard to fish open areas unless you've got some electronics on board, and if its even the slightest bit windy or lots of boats out on the lake, its gonna be hard to fish out in the open

  I tend not to fish the open areas. Thats one thing I notice up here in Mass is people fish out in the middle, we never do that in Tx unless you are following schooling bass then its a blast. I like the shore lines, downed trees and structure like that. I already printed out the lake map and read the write up. I will probably work the Middle basin the most. Thanks for the tip about the shore line by RT30 and the Pike.. I will probably start with a black 5" yamasenko without a weight and see what that does for me. Maybe switch to a pumkinseed colored lizard.

yea dude, anywhere around here the senkos kill.  Went last night to an undisclosed location and caught so many bass on senko worms it was rediculous, even got a free lure in one of the jaws of the bass!

but you're going on a saturday so watch those wakes man, it gets pretty busy out on that lake during the day, even at dusk its waky

Great timing on the post.  I was going to post something similar tonight.  My daughter won a free canoe rental and we're either going to the Charles River in Newton or Cochituate sometime in the next two weeks.   Do they stock trout in there?  If so I'll probably try to fish something that has a shot at bass, pickerel or trout like a Mepps.

CT River, he he he. If you know it, it is always on. It is a different world though. I love it because you can drop-shot big bridges for smallies, travel 20' and drop-shot largies on ship wrecks and barges. You have warm water discharges. Schools of 4 pound smallies that just cruise the sand flats between Hartford and Windsor, all those creeks that are just a jig fishermans heaven. Not too mention the main river crankin and grass beds.

I need to go there now.  :-/
