Boating/fishing on the Chick.

Featured Replies

Was driving out to Rt. 155 in Charles City County on Friday to look at a road I'll be working on this coming week and saw a "Public Boat Landing" sign. As per usual I followed it to see where it brought me. I ended up out at the Chickahominy WMA. The place looked peaceful, quiet, and most importantly, not busy. Now I'm interested in taking my boat out there and finding out what there is to be fished.

I'm fairly new to boating and have no experience on the Chickahominy, but my father purchased a bass boat for us to use, so I just want to make sure I'm not gonna end up anywhere too shallow. Is this place safe for said boat? And if so, whats the fishing like?

If you came out on the WMA then you were on morris creek which leads to the chick.  There is another boat ramp across ferry point bridge which is on gordon creek.  The chick can be fun fishing pads with frogs and such.  Just get you a map of the chick and yall will be fine....Good Luck

Go out of the Route 5 park as it is safer.

Vehicles are not attended on the Morris Creek ramp and I was told by Micro that there have been break-ins.

Get a GMCO map of the river and lake and see the other ramps along the river, such as River's Rest.

Be careful as the loonies are out after 11 AM with their jet skis, pontoon boats and yachts.  :)

P.S. See other Chick post on this site for places to consider fishing.  :)

Morris Creek does produce.  I can give you a couple of tips after this weekend.
