Dale Hollow smallie guide?

Featured Replies

I'm up in Ohio and all my favorite Smallie waters are frozen and I don't think I can wait till April to get my next Smallie fix. I'm thinking about taking a trip down to Dale Hollow because I hear that the winter months are some of the best for smallies. Would appriciate any info on Guides, Lodging and best dates to visit.

Thanks RW,

I sent Jim an e-mail today.

If you really want to satisfy your craving, drive the 2-3 hours more to Pickwick. Not only will you get your fix, you may come back with pics of the biggest brownie of your life.

Maybe, but Dale Hollow lays claim to both

The World Record and the second biggest

smallmouth every caught.

Mr. roadwarrior, duly noted. But if'n you speak of Hayes's 11.15 & Gorman's 10.14, that was a very long time ago, and before the onslaught of millions of man hours from some very good fisherman. I'd still put my money on Pickwick for numbers and size, with the right guide.

The world record LM comes from the Ocmulgee river, but it's not really a modern day destination of someone looking for a giant largemouth. ( that I know of anyway).

I do however respect your opionion of the Hollow. You're there, I'm not. 8-)

I asked about Dale Hollow because I was told that winter is one of the best times for smallies on that lake. Can the same be said for Pickwick? I don't mind traveling the extra miles but only if it's worth it.

It's Prime Time on the Tennessee River,

but you really need a guide. Send me a

PM if you want more information about my

friend and  smallmouth guide, Speedy Madewell.

pickwick is great but you cant beat dale hollow and Jim Duckworth is great to go fishing with. Him and my dad have been friends for 20 years so ive had the privilege to be in the boat with him a few times and he has taught me a lot. no doubt in my mind Jim will put you on some nice brown fish and will teach you a thing or two while your out there.
