The money minnow

Featured Replies

I might buy the money minnow today and i dont know how to fish it  :-? do i fish it weightless or with a weight??

I have no idea what the money minnow is.  But, with a name like the money minnow one of two things will come true:

1)  It will obviously win you a lot of money.

                             OR

2)  You will spend a lot of money buying them because they will be manufactured in such a way that you will lose them at an alarming rate.

I just bought some and haven't tried them out..also bought some Luck E Strike weighted hooks to go with them..rig them weedless with the hook point up

Let us in on your secret. What is a money minnow.

This was featured on a recent episode of Bill Dance - he gave examples of fishing with them all through the water column by adding weight or reeling them fast or twitching them

most guys are rigging them on a weighted hook .... if you look on tackle warehouse they have a vid that will help ya out ...

It looks just like a Sassy Shad to me, only bigger. Whether or not it's worth $10 for four of them. . . hmmmmm? :-/

I actually just fished it for the first time today. It is a goodlooking bait but I didn't really give it a chance bc the spinnerbait bite was on and I was hammering them!!!!

However, the MM has directions on the back of the pack. The best wayto rig them is with a 5/0 weighted hook. I used an 1/8 oz and it worked great. The bait is weedless and has great action. I am excited to try it in the morning.

Ill give you the report tomorrow when I get some more time with it.

Thats the 1st thing I thought of when I started seeing them

I tryed it with the weight hook and it put a huge hole in it :-/

try an add a hitch hiker to the eye of your hook to keep from having to put the whole hook through or find a hook with some sort of peg on it to attach the bait... I got some I think are from lake Fork tackle that work perfect found them at Wal-Mart. it uses a 30 degree EWG hook like most of my jig have but it has a peg ti stick in the bait and weight added to the bend of the hook

I have never fished this type of lure, however have fished the weighted hooks before.

I little trick is to start the hook like you normally would, however once the point has came out of the bait take it back out and insert the eye of the hook and it will go back out to the nose of the bait, the only disadvantage of doing it this way is that you will need to tie the hook on after it is rigged, and retie more often; but then again that may just increase your odds as it forces you to retie.

Hope this makes sense.

That's what I do.

Tried the Money Maker today and caught a couple decent pond bass on it..Used a 3/16z weighted hook but it seemed to light and rode high in the water..

I lost 1 when a leader knot failed on me..I was watching the bait when a bass swiped it and the bait was gone,no hook set or nothing..

An hour later I was throwing Lip-less cranks and caught a bass and saw it had line coming out of its mouth..I was thinking NO WAY...looked down its gullet and started pulling gently and sure enough, out popped the Money Maker
