Rage Tail Shad My 2 Cents

Featured Replies

i know these baits have been talked about a ton on here but yesterday i got the chance to fish the Ragetail Shad for the first time. one word "AWESOME" !  the action is unreal! the weather was not the best and this is not true "topwater" season here, so i didn't catch any fish on it. i think without a doubt of the new baits this year, this one is the "must have" in your tackle bag out of them all.

just my 2 cents

That's just great.  I can't find them anywhere.  Not even at BPS.  Gonna have to order some.

Micro, I have found them at every walmart I've been to, the craws and the frogs too.  Gander has them too, but I don't know how far you are from one of those...

Here's the $64 000 question.  What makes the Rage Tail baits worth nearly $1 each?

I think it's more like a $1 question, since a bag of SKRT frogs costs a buck more than Zoom Horny Toads.  The SKs have a better topwater action.

worth a 1.00 a piece???  I have been paying 4.99 for them, and they seem to be especially durable, can catch multiple fish on one unlike other baits(gycb) that I have been seeing more and more for 7.99 a bag >:)

I also love the action, but miss a bunch of fish with it.  out of ten bites I've only caught 3.  Even after letting them have it.  Have to find a way to hookup on them.

I also bought a bag and tried them with no succses. The bite was very slow that day though. But the action is great I think they will have a place in the boat and be a winner on a better day. Would like to hear some comments on how they hold up from some of you that have caught some fish on them.

I had trouble with them. I wasn't expecting to catch fish because it's still not time for topwater yet but I found that I had to retrieve mine incredibly fast to get them to work properly. Anyone else experience this? Is that just the way the bait is meant to work or am I doing something wrong?

Mine aren't reacting quite like I thought. Seem to be getting some rolling and spinning.  They aren't riding up on top of the water flat.  If they are supposed to imitate a dying shad, I don't think I've ever seen a dying shad lying on its side going full tilt across the water. If I retrieve it slow, It sinks more than I thought it should and rolls.  I rigged it like it's suggested, making sure the hook is centered.  I can see that its going to require a tremendous hook set to pull that hook through the plastic and into the fish.  Frankly, kinda disappointed.

4/0 to 6/0 EWG (Extra Wide Gap)hooks are recommended on both Rage Shad and Toad. My favorite is 5/0 EWG. The Rage Tail website has a video on hooking instructions on the Rage Tail Shad. Also www.strikeking.com has a different clip showing instructions as well. Can expose hook on top of back and skin hook, or push the hook thru back of bait with then retract slightly to hide hook point or just push all the way thru bait and lay point on back. All depends on type of vegetation (sparse or heavy) is fished. On the fast moving Shad to attain action, often colder water causes this but it loosens up with a few casts. When in colder water, you can gently stretch (be careful not to tear) the tight bend in the reinforced area of the tail to tune it to the action, sound or speed you desire.
