Spring gobbler season

Featured Replies

I'm really psyched about the upcoming gobbler season. I've been doin some scouting and made a few blinds in some key areas that have been loaded with turkey and deer lately...Now I just gotta keep the ole trigger finger at bay til the season starts  ;)

Any other turkey hunters on here?

yep I'm getting ready myself too.   I already have about 5 or 6 good places to go.  My friend  got one back in Dec during fall shotgun.  I would have gotten one but I left my gun at the truck because we was building a blind and I didn't want to pack it down because I already had enough stuff to take anyway.  Fortunatly he brought his because it wasn't even 2 min after putting the finishing touches on the blind that spotted some coming.   2 hours buiding a blind 5 min worth of hunting and done had one.  We went back the next day but they didn't come.

This year I plan on using only a bow  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_1mFAi2SSQ   for turkey.   I have the calls all ready and just need to put a few finishing touches on a few things.  I'm hopeing to have a double bull blind before it starts.

Yep hunt them too, have a few buddies I am guiding this year and also a pair of guys from South Carolina.  Should be a good season as I can scout more now, although going with my bow this year to present more of a challenge.

I hunt them but never get one lol!! Ive been trying to get one with my bow for the last three years and can either not get them close enough fo a good shot or there is something in the way so this year I got a new shot gun and i'm going to bag me a turkey finally!!! if all goes well!!!

Yep, but I don't hunt them like deer. No blinds pre set up on guessing where they be or when they'll be by..

What sold me on it 11 yrs ago was the stalk and ambush, thats the best challenge for me. Keeps me comen back year after year :)

Of course I'm only able to do it this way with my own leased land to hunt on. couldn't do it that way with public hunten land-I'd get shot ;)

My son got his first one two years ago when he was 8. I'll post the pic later.

Gobble Gobble ;D

A blind? Isn't taking advantage of the horny reckless abandon of the gobbler the point of the spring season?

I hunted turkeys for many years in Virginia, and got good at getting birds on public land - no easy trick.   I haven't hunted them in 5 years or more.  I have +/- 2 dozen calls in storage.

I used to like a high-pitched glass slate as a locator call.  Every nimrod on the woods was blowing an owl or crow call.  The birds never answered.  A sudden yelp on a really high pitched glass would wake them every time.

I like fishing better than turkey hunting.  Great fishing and spring turkey overlap, and I'd rather be fishing.  So I doubt I'll do it anymore.   Only got time for one real passion.

Yep, i'll be out there too. I have only bagged two turkeys in my 4 years of hunting. My first was a 21 1/2 pound bird with 8 1/2 inch beard and 1 1/4 inch spurs. Good luck to ya'll! :)

Sling Shot is the only way to go for me. You have to be patience and

aim for the eye.

I am always ready to hunt turkey. I have all my stuff in a box and I am ready to go in about 20 minutes. I love to call birds.
