Why do some Hooks come with a bead with no hole?

Featured Replies

Just like the topic says!  After reading a post about the bead that comes with ribbit frogs I got to thinking.  Over the years I have bought several different packages (makers/styles) of hooks.  A lot of times they have a single bead in the pack.  It is usually a pink/orange or clear color.  It does NOT have a threading hole like a bead you might use for a C-rig.

Does anybody know why these are in there?  (heck, maybe I'm just too dumb to recognize it as one of those 'dessicant (sp!?) things that soaks up moisture) I have often wondered and it just occured to me that this is the place to ask about it.  Thanks.  Oh, and why do men have nipples? 8-)

I personally have never seen such a thing.

I have seen it a few times and I think the only brand was eagle claw. This "bead"didnt have a threading hole and looked to me like a piece of that silica gel stuff like they put in shoes to absorb moisture.Being eagle claw I would not doubt this to be the reason since they are the must rusting pieces of junk on the market.

Never saw it either.  Probably desiccant like you said.

I think I know what your talking about. Are they a lot like the things in the Do Not Eat the Contents of This Bag!!! beads?

haha Thats funny that you posted this because I was looking at a pack of striper hooks today that had the beads with no holes. I was gonna use one of the beads for a Texas rig today to go bass fishing and realized there were no holes!!

I think it was actually made to be a "conversation piece".  LOL.  Seems to have worked!

I don't know because it says DO NOT EAT!!! SO I never know what the contents look like as I am afraid to open it!

Now that I think about it, I'm sure that is what the yare.  I had never considered it before, but when I was making this topic it suddenly occured and made sense to have those in with hooks (at least the cheaper ones I buy sometimes) to keep them from rusting.

Speaking of nipples...it's swimsuit season so I probably need to find myself a set of eyepatches so the ladies don't get jealous... :-* ROFLMAO.

It is part of the harassmet program of PETA to drive us over the edge.

I have seen this in Eagle Claw hooks as well.  I think it has to do with the packaging process.  I highly doubt that it is a rust inhibitor.

I have seen those beads in packs of Sugoi hooks too. I don't think they serve any purpose though.

It's a silica bead.  It also keeps some air in the package so the hooks don't poke through in shipping.  Save them, and when you have enough, sprinkle them on your ice cream :P

All the Sugoi hooks have them in the package. The hooks are designed and made

exclusively for Gary Yamamoto by Gamakatsu. I have never known what the beads

were for.

Thanks John!

When I read this, I was thinking, what? I don’t recall ever writing that post. Oh no. Someone’s hacked my account and is making posts in my name.
Then, I saw the date: 6/13/2008 and I start laughing. I wrote it nearly 13 years ago, lol.

Awe, the wonders of resurrected posts. ?
