Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player

Well, I 'm shure I got the latest Flash Player version cuz I installed it a couple of weeks ago, so where the heck do I turn the danged JavaScript on ?!?   :-/

Right click on "My Computer".  Click on properties.  In the next window that opens, click on "Tools"

Then click on "check disk for errors" or something like that.  The next window that opens might have two boxes both having to do with repairing the registry.  Put check marks in both.  Then click OK.

You will probably get a message that tells you it cannot perform disc check because it needs resources you are using (paraphrase).  And will ask if you want to schedule diskcheck the next time you start the computer.  Click on yes.

Running diskcheck can take a couple of hours or more, so do it when you won't be needing the computer for a couple of hours. 

Bedtime is always good.

It will repair and restore the registry.  That solves most of the computer problems.  You'll find it much faster afterward as well.

Also, check for updates while you're at it.  Even if it's scheduled to automatically receive updates, a corrupt registry may prevent that from happening.  I was having an update problem and running diskcheck solved it.

Java and javascript are two different creatures.

Check disk will do nothing at all for the problem above.

Select Tools > Internet Options.

Click on the Security tab.

Click the Custom Level button.

Scroll down to the Scripting section.

Select Enable for Active Scripting and Scripting of Java Applets.

Click OK.

Select YES if a box appears to confirm.

Click OK. Close window.

Reload page

You have Javascript turned on already.  Otherwise you couldn't view this forum.

It sounds like you have flash disabled for some reason.  To check, go to:

Tools > Manage add-ons > Enable or Disable add-ons.  Look for "Shockwave" or "Shockwave Flash Object".  Click on it once, then look at "settings" beneath the list of names.  "Enabled" should be checked (the dot next to it). If it's not checked, then click "enabled" and save it.

If it is checked, then back out of it, remove flash from your computer (via control panel), and reinstall Flash from Adobe's site.  It should work now.

This isn't the same a disabling Javascript, as a whole.

I can disable the option I listed above, this site works fine but I replicate his exact error on youtube.

If I enable that option, youtube works just fine.  This site renders either way.

I messed up the directions. 

Open "My Computer" (do not right click on it), then right click on the "C" drive, then click on properties.  Click on "Tools", and follow my first directions from there.

Open window.  throw computer out window.  Call Dell.  Order new computer. 

Wasn't that easy?  ;D

Switch to Firefox and don't worry about IE problems again

Otherwise it may be time to just reset IE.

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Restore Advanced Settings. Close this and try youtube again. If not then go to the same area and choose Reset...

If you do not have Reset then you have too old of a browser and its time to upgrade it to IE8.

Many websites including Google (who runs Youtube) are cutting support for older IE browsers including IE6 and older. Only IE7 and 8 are officially supported by Microsoft anyways, and IE7 was so problematic, it is better to just jump to 8.

Enter "turn javascript on"  into google search box

Click on the "How to Turn on Javascript" link

You do, but every browser I've developed for will spam a pop up to the user, requesting the add on be enabled.  I didn't see him list that, so I'm assuming he has the problem I posted, which will not give the same pop up.

I've never seen such a popup because the Google toolbar blocks them.  Many other toolbars and anti-malware programs do the same, so the popup won't always appear.

What I'm talking about doesn't get touched by google toolbar, or any other pop up blocker. It's a native funciton of the browswer

I get that on this site and any other test site that requests the pop up.

Regardless, hope you get it fixed Raul.

Must be a setting in your browser, because I've never seen that before.  And I'm often disabling shockwave for testing purposes.

Not a setting at all, its native in IE8.

I have a 700+ user base that can see it as well, I use the same type of development on our internal web sites and if /when the add-on is improperly removed or disabled, they get the notification.
