catfish reel

Featured Replies

What is a good rod and reel to use for catfishing. Ive never been so i have no clue. Any help is much appreciated.

Unless your going for trophy size blues and flatheads I think your basic bass casting reel and rods would do in a pinch.  I regularly go after channel cats with my Curado, MH 6.5 ft rod and 14lb line and dont feel out gunned.  What and where are you going after?

Blue Cats?  This is where Ugly Stiks shine.  A good, stout Ugly Stick  (about 7' good for 15lb + line) with an Ambassadeur Trophy or C3 reel in 6500 size.

Well some family members and i have planned a fishing trip for this coming summer and i know were going catfishing but we havent planned out the details so i was just trying to get an idea, so my revo s and 6'6 mh rod would do fine for your average sized cats? and if ugly stiks are good for cat micro then im set cuz 1 thing i dont have is a shortage of them.

i love using the old penn fishing reels my friend restores them and sells them really cheap if you are interested in getting on pm me and i will give u hais phone number

Well, if you are fishing for BIG fish in the Mid South, on the Mississippi River around Memphis, you need a pool stick! BPS carries "Big Catfish" designed by James Patterson. That is a 100 lb fish rod! If you're just after "Yankee" fish, under 50 lbs, any heavy rod will work.

I catch lots of 20+ catfish on the Tennessee River when I am fishing for smallmouth on a MF spinning rod and #4 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. With a little patience, catfish are *******.
