Buffalo During The Spawn

Man, what a sight. I guess these fish don't "nest". Their courtship is an orgy at and near the surface. The fish were stacked along a gravel bar that we were fishing Saturday on the Tennessee River. We only picked up one smallmouth (5-9), but our three man total for "fish" caught probably was in the 200-300 lb range!

Our fish included white bass and a 6+ lb hybrid, but the big fish (10-15 lbs) were all buffalo. These fat girls were especially fun on Medium Power spinning rods and #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. Guys, I'm telling you that's one heck of a fight!

I snagged a 12+lb'er on a Rattle Trap one spring on the Potomac River.   One of the best fights ever.

A few of our fish were foul-hooked which made them twice as big!

The only fish we actually weighed was a little shy of 16 lbs, but most

of them were  pretty close to that weight. My biggest thrill of the day

was a hybrid caught on a Slender Pointer. I knew from the get-go

that it wasn't a buffalo and was pretty sure I had a fine smallie on,

but it turned out not to be the case.
