How do I go about finding and catching Crappie in the winter? I have never tried for them in the winter months. Not really interested in using bait, so only recommend lures. In the summer, I do really good whacking them on 3/16th ounce hair jigs. But, I am unsure on what to use right now. Water temp is around 56.

IMO, there's not a heck of a lot of difference.  They tend to school at all times of the year except when they spawn.  They tend to hang around deeper structure.   Marabou jigs work at all times of the year though it may take a few tries at finding the particular color they are drawn to on any given day.  I've had some luck with jigs in all-white to chartruese and hot pink.  They will bite even when the water is very cold.  I know guys that have cracked ice with their boats and brought home good catches of them.
