Greg Hackney wins only 500K!! in FLW Cup

Featured Replies

Is there a story on Greg Hackney only winning $500K in FLW Cup? Surely he can afford to get comp'd a Ranger.

Yep, he didnt qualify for the contingency money because he didnt fish in a Ranger. This is just a guess but his primary boat contract (Triton?) might prevent him from fishing a Ranger unless it is enforced that he uses a Ranger (like on the last day of the Cup).

In order for the contingency money to be awarded the winning angler must be signed up in the Ranger Cup and meet all the requirements of that program.

It goes a little beyond just fishing out of a Ranger so Hackney being comp'd one wouldn't matter.

I agree with FBL, probably due to Hackneys current sponsorship, he didn't run a Ranger except when the FLW told him he had to.

If IKE would have won he would have been in the same situation.

So they had to run a Ranger boat on the final days?

Ike is kicking himself right now, for showing up with less fish on final day and losing TWO!

The anglers who made the top 10 cut for the final 2 days all ran Rangers. I believe they are required to do so per FLW rules. It's similar to what B.A.S.S. did with Triton a coule years ago.

If the anglers weren't using a Ranger (or sponsored by Ranger) they were supplied one for the 2 days.

Ike (Basscat), Hackney(Triton), Nixon(Stratos), all have boat deals with other companies so they were given Rangers to use.

FLW has a family of sponsors or an umbrella of sponsors.

Those 10 Rangers are wrapped by FLW sponsors. Its predetermined before hand, the the Qualifing leader will fish from the Folgers boat.

2nd will fish the Lowrance boat and so on. don't remember the exact order this year. EAch angler will have a Jersey made that correspondes to the boat and FLW sponsors.

Same for day 4, order of place at the end of day 3 determines the boat you are in for the last day.

Folgers, Castrol, Lowrance, Chevy, National Guard, Berkley, Tums, Walmart, Keebler, all had wraps for the last 2 days. ????help whats the other?

Did you know that the winner doesn't not get 1 mill up front even if qualified. That contingency money gets paid out 50K a year for ten years.

I think BP was the 10th?

It would be nice to have the additional 500K paid up front but having it paid at 50K for 10 years isn't a bad yearly payday either ;)
