Just as the title states what are your favorite frog fishing techniques?  I am going to start trying some frog fishing at a pond that is very heavily covered with lily pads.

I recently picked up some SPRO Frogs, Scum Frogs and Rage Toads and am looking for some information on the techniques used to fish them.

Adclem, On the Spro and Scum Frogs, work'em on top of the grass, pads with little twitches or with gentle walk the dog style of retrieve. Don't get too quick and let the fish tell you what they like as you vary your presentation. They will hone in on one type of look that will tell the story.

Important to try to see the frog as they see it....this keeps you focused and helps you the understand why the fish struck.

On the Rage Toad, be sure to use 5/0 to 6/0 minimum EWG superline hook. Insert the hook 1/2" deep into the nose and then back completely through the body and skin hook in the little slot on the Toads back. You will notice that the Toad is now Keeled like a boat and will stay upright 99% of the time on cast and retrieve. If in fact it lands on it's back on the cast, just pause 1 sec. and you will see it right itself to it's stomach. Be sure to Pop the feet tabs loose.

This bait is a buzz type frog that can be thrown in the junk as well as open water effectively. It's ok to vary your speeds but keep it just slow enough to keep the feet flipping and/or churning. Over open pockets it is good to pause now and then and let it fall or drop for a different type of reaction strike....Again let the fish tell you what they want.

Regardless which frog you are fishing, let the fish load up on it after the strike before you set the hook. Feel the fish and hitt'em.

If the fish are feeding rather actively than use the SPRO frog and the rage toads. When using the spro, walk it with about 1 to 5 second brakes in between the left and right movements. If the fish are less active than use the scum frog. Fish it slowly, pulling the rod about 1/2' to 1' to make the frog dart under the water and make a wave of water around it, In between the jerks, bob the frog, and let it sit for a few seconds.

Take that Spro frog and slash the legs up till there about 1" long.  Put on some heavy braid and throw that thing at everything that looks good.  Walk it slowly, experimenting with different pauses and cadences, and hold on.  When they hit, wait until you can feel the fish, then cross his eyes!

Do exactly what Senko77 said and you have a very good chance of catching some big fish. What he describes is exactly how I learned to fish the frog this summer and it produced MONSTER fish!

Simp, that thing is a toad!  Congrats on the gorgeous fish.  Did she explode on the frog, or just slurp it down?

Oh it was a slurp, I swear it was like a draining bath tube lol. I let her have it for a couple secs and set the hook hard and the Gama hooks on the spro didn't let me down!

My favorite frog fishing technique starts with a 5wt. fly-rod outfit with a 2# test leader and a size 14 woolybugger. Lily pads are a great place to start, but don't forget the reeds or undercut shorelines. Listen for them, but if you don't hear them, it doesn't mean that they are not there. You don't have to sneak up on them (they don't scare easily), but i always think that a quiet approach is better than a noisy one. Anyways, i keep my roll-casts relatively short so i can see the frog attack the lil' bugger, and don't set the hook too hard, just an easy lift (like a dropshot set) and the fight is on!! It's a crazy fight if you foul-hook them in the leg.....
