Great Day At Lake Fork (Pics)

Featured Replies

Well I got a day off from work today so I decided to head home to East Texas monday night & fish Lake Fork today (tuesday).

Got out on the water at 6:45AM & it was beautiful.  The morning started out in the low 50's, very foggy, & made it's way up to about 80-82 in the afternoon with blue bird skies.

My first stop was a weed line that I love to fish (pic below) that drops off to about 12ft on the edge.  I was able to pick the fist bass up with a yellow magic magnum on that weed line on my 4th cast.  Got me thinking that I was going to be in for a great morning.  Boy was I wrong.  I just happened to cast that lure right in front of a young stupid bass  ;D.  For the next hour I worked that weed edge with every lure that I thought should have worked & didn't even get another bite.  So I decided to move to another one of my spots & give it a try.

I went a little ways back in Little Caney Creek to my second spot & was very disappointed in it's condition.  First off I didn't mention that the Lake is way down, as to be expected at this time of the year, & I'm ok with that.  But my spot was very stagnant and all the grass had already died.  So I decided that I would try it a bit & move on.  I was able to pull 1 small bass out with a hollow body swimbait.

After seeing the condition that Caney was in I decided to head towards the dam & try & find some schools in the big water.  BINGO.  I was able to graph a few bait fish pods with some streaking fish below them.  So I threw out my marker buoys & started with a DD22.  I got hit on the first two casts but didn't keep them on & by my third cast they had all moved to the surface & were feeding.  I dropped that rod & picked up my hollow body swimbait & caught 4 on 4 casts.  This went on for the next 1 1/2 - 2 hrs.  I would catch them up top with the swimbait then when they moved back down I would pick up the DD22 & pull in a few more that way.

All in all I caught over 30 bass today all from 1 1/2lbs - 3 1/2lbs.  I go to Fork for size but I'm certainly not going to complain with the numbers I got today.  An absolute blast.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing your trip.

Sounds like a great day on the water!

Days like the one you just had, the stories about the size of the fish that lake produces, and now the picks of that place you have posted are quickly moving Lake Fork to the top of my list of places I must fish one day! Congrats on finding that pattern, must have been serious fun!

NICE Tracker 175!

Thanks for the story and pics.  Glad you had a good day.  I can't wait to get back down there.

Lake Fork is one of the top bass lakes in the world. I am heading down there from Tennessee tomorrow with my 11yo son, who when given the choice, had his mind made up....."Lake Fork or bust" We are excited to spend. A few days on it hoping for that one big thump. But if we are fortunate enough to get into schools like you did, then that would be awesome! The mystique of that lake keeps you coming back. Thanks for sharing. :D
