Pegging sliding sinkers

Featured Replies

I'm having difficulty trying to peg bullet sinkers to my line to make them stationary.  I have read several articles on the topic, and understand that lots of people now do not use toothpics anymore, due to potential line damage.

I have tried the Top Brass Peg it rubber 'spikes', but I can't get them to slide into the sinker and hold it in place.  Toothpicks are the only thing I've been able to peg a sinker with.  Is there a secret to using the rubber Peg-its, something that I am not doing correctly?

Thanks

Just keep using toothpicks.Like Woo Daves say's  in

his video "Ive been doing it for over thirty years and

have not had a problem".

Toothpicks work just fine, just be sure to use round ones.  In fact, as testimony to the fact that the toothpick doesn't damage the line, here is a picture of a trout, caught on toothpick pegged trout bead.  The leader was 4# fluorocarbon.  These guys pull a lot harder than bass.

Try the Tru-Tungsten Smart Peg ( Bass Pro Shops Catalog p.330) or the BPS Sinker/Bobber Stops ( same page wright above the Tru-Tungsten). I tryed them last year and they work great, they will not harm your line and are so easy to put on, And if you don't want the rubber stop against the weight then just slide it up your line to where you want it,  you have a C-rig without changing a thing.

the Tru-Tungsten is$3.99

the BPS is$1.70  I like the Tru-Tungsten alot better! ;)

I've been using the bobber stops for 4 years and like the qualities that come with it. When a fish is tail dancing that bobber stop slides up the line and the weight can slide also.

If you really want to fish pegged weights try the Gambler screw in,and they are making them in rattling version again ;)

Toothpicks should be fine also,as others have said.(low budget baby)

I would really like an idea of how you are trying to use the rubber spikes that they won't work for you. Here is an idea of how to use it.Sorry no pics.

1)Put the weight on your line (it slides)

2)Tie your hook

3)Take pointy end of the rubber and push up through the bottom of the sinker.

4)there is a tiny slot or notch on the bottom of the rubber peg that you can choose to run your line through.

5)Grasp the sinker in one hand and use the other to pull the spike all the way through from the top until the flat bottom part is seated in the cup shaped part on the bottom of your sinker(You have too pull HARD especially if your line is thick)

6)Take scissors and trim the remaining rubber from the point of your sinker flush.

The bobber stop concept works great too but not for me.I mostly use braided line and they won't stay.

I don't peg sinkers anymore. I use the BPS Perfect Finesse Worm Rig, or Perfect Worm Rig, on the top of pg. 283, in the new catalog. The weight is molded onto the Gamakatsu hook, and they come in three different colors. No problem.

I use the parasite weights. I have been using them for a long time and like them alot. They also have just the clip for when you fish stuff weightless.

I like these weights too but, with the Tru-Tungsten and the BPS stops go can ajust your weight on your line to wright up against the bait ( T Rig )or move it up and now you have a T- Rig with a long leader, leader without changing a thing! ;).

I can either make it tight to the bait or usually I'll leave a little space for a bead. it makes an extra sound and I sometimes like a little flex at the head of the lure.

When I peg a slip sinker, I use a rubber band. I use the insertion tool that comes with a Mojo weight kit.
